CLINICAL FELLOW CT 1/2 LEVEL IN TRAUMA & ORTHOPAEDICS

(FULL TIME)


An exciting opportunity has arisen for CT1/2 level posts as Clinical Fellows at the highly esteemed Avon Orthopaedic Centre at Southmead Hospital, Bristol.

Commencing August 2024, this full time 6 months post till February 2025, (opportunity for possible extension and possible earlier start) provides the opportunity to work in a varied and challenging clinical role.


The Avon Orthopaedic Centre (AOC) located in the Brunel Building is the largest specialist elective orthopaedic centre in the Southwest, 4th largest nationally, the Major Trauma provider for the Severn region, and regional tertiary referral centre for complex spinal surgery.

The Trauma team work closely with the regional plastic surgery and regional vascular teams in the management of major trauma, and in addition have excellent outcomes with ambulatory and elderly trauma including hip fractures.


The elective Orthopaedic service is provided by a team of 39 North Bristol Trust and University Hospitals Bristol NHS Foundation Trust Consultants, as part of a Bristol wide centralised orthopaedic service delivered at the AOC.


Services include:

Primary, revision and arthroscopic hip surgery, Knee joint replacement, revision and ligamentous reconstruction, Primary and complex foot and ankle replacement, Local and tertiary shoulder, elbow and hand centre, and Local and regional centre for complex spinal surgery including deformity.

This post is not formally recognised for training and does not have postgraduate deanery approval.

However, the job has a strong emphasis on providing a positive training experience, is well supported and the AOC has a strong track record of placing Clinical Fellows onto the highly successful registrar training scheme.

Should fellows so desire then opportunities exist for developing research work which could follow on from this post to lead into a period of orthopaedic clinical research following receipt of required approvals and funding.


The AOC consists of 2 trauma and 6 elective operating theatres and 16 outpatient rooms from which all elective, specialist and fracture clinics are delivered.

The service is delivered through a 124 beds in Brunel Building, which includes a designated fracture neck of femur unit.

The Musculoskeletal Research Unit of the University of Bristol is part of the AOC.

The MRU has been awarded over £8 million by the government to solve problems such as preventing infection and improving joint replacements.

In addition we are the official analysts of the National Joint Registry.


Basic Salary:
£43,923.
