We're looking for an experienced finance professional to join our Senior Leadership Team to help take our charity forward in its development and growth.

Hope Rescue is a dog rescue charity based in Llanharan, South Wales.

We're extremely proud of the high standards of care we provide for the most vulnerable dogs in our local communities, and also our passion for seeking to improve the lives of those dogs outside our gates through our campaign work.

We've grown considerably over the last five years, and have some exciting and dynamic plans for further growth and impact.


This new role will lead on finance and ensure robust financial management for the charity, driving performance improvement and ensuring overall financial effectiveness, efficiency, and sustainability.

The role will also be responsible for overseeing our HR, IT and facilities management infrastructure and processes and managing a small team.


Job Purpose


To oversee Hope Rescue's operational financial functions including statutory reporting and compliance, and to manage the charity's support services including facilities management.


Main Responsibilities

  • Direct line management and supervision of the Accounts Assistant and Facilities Manager, ensuring the team is recruited, trained and mentored to provide an excellent understanding of the business requirements of the charity.
  • Reporting all key monthly financial information to the Management Team and Board of Trustees including understanding of all key variances, risks and opportunities.
  • Supporting the Senior Head of Operations with the annual financial budget setting including preparation and presentation to Management Team and Board of Trustees of detailed annual budget proposal for all service areas, central costs and fundraising.
  • Managing the annual statutory financial reporting process including preparation of financial statements and managing the audit process including all necessary preparation, dealing with audit queries and finalising matters.
  • Providing Management Team with the information they need to understand the financial status of their respective areas undertaking additional ad hoc projects to support as necessary e.g. contract tenders
  • Continuously identifying and managing financial risk including putting in place financial management policies, systems and control and monitor compliance through a programme of internal audit.
  • Ensure sound management of all banking, cash control and financial security arrangements.
  • Ensure that all statutory filing responsibilities with respect to HMRC are managed and dealt with in a timely way.
  • Management of investments and assets.
  • Support governance processes for the Board of Trustees, working with the Senior Head of Operations to deliver governance administration on behalf of the Board.
  • Working closely with the Senior Head of Operations, ensuring that the charity is adequately insured and that pension processes are managed including management of the annual insurance renewal process for buildings, liabilities and staff benefits.
  • Oversee the development, implementation and delivery of the asset management strategies to meet our strategic objectives.
  • Provide effective oversight for the procurement and appointment of external contracts.
  • Management of IT resources and services to ensure that IT, software and communications systems are safe, appropriate, working efficiently and cost effective.
  • Work closely with the HR Trustee and Management Team to ensure the effective recruitment, induction and development of staff and ensure appropriate HR policy and procedural frameworks are in place.
  • Oversee compliance with high standards of information governance and relevant legislation including GDPR and data protection.
  • Ensure compliance with Health & Safety policies and procedures in line with Hope Rescue and statutory standards and rules, ensuring the safety of all persons and pets on and off site at all times.
