Croydon Youth Justice Service (YJS) is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Mental Health Practitioner to join their service. The post holder will be part of the Clinical Service, who offers support to YJS.

As a key member of our multidisciplinary team, you will play a vital role in supporting the mental well-being of young offenders and promoting their rehabilitation and reintegration into society.


Responsibilities:


  • Conduct comprehensive mental health assessments for young individuals within the youth justice system.
  • Develop and implement individualised care plans tailored to the specific needs of each young person.
  • Provide evidencebased therapeutic interventions, such as systemic interventions, cognitivebehavioural therapy skills, and traumainformed care, to address mental health concerns.
  • Collaborate closely with probation officers, social workers, and other professionals to ensure a coordinated approach to support and intervention.
  • Offer support and guidance to families and carers, helping them understand and cope with their child's mental health challenges.
  • Advocate for the mental health needs of young offenders, liaising with external agencies and services to secure appropriate support and followup care.
  • Maintain accurate and uptodate records of all interactions and interventions, adhering to confidentiality and data protection guidelines.

Requirements:


  • Intermediate (or above) training in systemic practice.
  • Proven experience working as a mental health practitioner, preferably within the youth justice system or similar settings.
  • Sound knowledge of mental health issues affecting young individuals, including conduct disorders, substance abuse, selfharm, and trauma.
  • Familiarity with therapeutic modalities and interventions suitable for young offenders.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to establish rapport and build trusting relationships with young people.
  • Strong organizational skills, with the ability to manage a caseload effectively and prioritize competing demands.
  • Sensitivity to cultural and diversity issues, ensuring a nonjudgmental and inclusive approach.
