Age UK are recruiting for a unique new role, a
Head of Volunteering.


The successful post holder will provide strategic as well as operational leadership for volunteering at Age UK, developing, delivering and continually scrutinising our volunteering strategy, raising our profile and making Age UK a great choice for those wishing to give up their time, and offer their skills and experience, for a great cause.


Leading on on both the development and ongoing review of resources relating to the volunteering infrastructure, such as the Volunteer System, you will ensure that it is fit for purpose, meets our needs and acts as a tool to enhance the volunteering experience at Age UK.


This opportunity holds responsibility for the development of funding propositions to help grow the development, management, and delivery of our volunteer services.

Measuring the value, and impact of volunteering and how this contributes to Age UK strategic priorities by reporting on the growth and engagement of volunteering at Age UK.


Building strong relationships and working with our external partners, you will develop our approach to volunteering and deliver the organisations strategy.


Some travel will be required in this role to attend our various offices across the country, this is infrequent, however the post holder will be required to work from our offices in Tower Hill, London as part of their hybrid working arrangement.

Must haves:

  • Leading or managing complex programmes of work
  • Management at a senior level including senior executives
  • Focus and passion for breaking down barriers for minoritized groups and promoting equity and inclusivity in all that you do
  • Responsibility for managing volunteer services and volunteer development
  • Developing and delivering volunteer policies and procedures
  • Budgeting for and measuring impact
  • Track record of successful project management with a fast paced, complex organisation.
  • Budget and contract management.
  • Experience of working collaboratively in a fast paced, complex environment, building networks with a diverse range of people crossdivisionally. Proven track record of motivational leadership with an ability to inspire colleagues

Great to haves:


  • Experience of working within a federated structure
  • Technical system development and implementation
  • Knowledge through either lived or professional experience of working with older people
