The HR Advisor role is the first point of contact for employment law and best practice advice, support on company policies, employee relations, business restructure requirements, occupational health case management and employee wellbeing support.

Advisors should manage cases to completion, including onsite support as required; providing guidance and support to managers.

Advisors should work with the HR Business Partner to identify areas for improvement or manager training requirements and support the delivery of new initiatives as and when.

HR support for approximately 3700 employees across multiple business lines, and multiple sites

Key accountabilities

  • Telephone advice to the business you will be the first point of contact for enquiries regarding company policies and procedures, employment legislation, best practice and all employee relations matters for complex or contentious cases advisors should refer to their HR Business Partner as necessary.
  • Disciplinary and Grievance total case management of disciplinary and grievance matters (up to, and including, dismissals and appeals), including onsite support as required. Liaison with HR Business Partner as required for complex cases, or where needed to support stage hearings.
  • Occupational Health guide managers through occupational health cases to completion, including (where necessary) calculation and approval for illhealth terminations. Liaise with IDC as needed to move cases forward or gather further information.
  • Absence Management support managers through process, explain process for calculating 'trigger points' and advising on what types of absence are included. Where required support managers in dismissals of employee, including onsite support as necessary.


  • Restructure/redundancy

  • Work with managers to ensure process is followed from outset, including calculating any redundancy numbers and obtaining necessary approvals. Ensure managers have all required guidance/process documents and that these are submitted to HR/Employee services as needed.
  • Statistics & reports use data provided by Employee services to identify any key trends, discuss these with HR Business Partner to support in development of business improvement/change programmes
  • Management Development support managers through case management and advisor to attend area/regional management meetings to ensure management team are competent and confident in dealing with a variety of HR issues
  • Recruitment as required advise managers on best practice selection processes and any necessary approvals, you may also need to support managers at interview for more senior roles
  • Data maintenance ensure that all case files are up to date and filed at close of case, enter all case outcomes in SAP, advise Employee services of any errors so they can correct


  • Improvements

  • Continuously review and advise HR Business Partner on recommended improvements to HR support, policies, system and administration processes to ensure maximum efficiency
  • General administrative and project support including business restructure support, recruitment support, disciplinary/grievance interview or meeting support, etc
Education/Qualification

Studying towards, or holding, CIPD qualification

HR Competence

  • Expertise using a HR Management system
  • Workday
  • Previous HR Advisory experience
  • Knowledge of use of HR KPIs
  • Good business understanding and excellent organisational knowhow
  • Advanced PC skills including familiarity with HR databases, excel formula and mail merge

Flexibility in working hours, willingness and ability to travel within the UK as and when required of role

Full UK driving licence

Salary £32,000 - £36,000 depending on experience
