Job Purpose

Reporting to the Director of Organisational Development, the Internal Communication and Engagement Lead is responsible for developing and implementing an effective colleague engagement strategy for the University aligned to the World Changers Together and related strategies.

Working in partnership and collaboratively with colleagues across the University, the role will contribute to the execution of engagement activity, including the delivery of the Colleague Engagement extended pulse survey, facilitation of the University's wide ranging Engagement Working Group and Engagement Lead Network.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement an effective and enduring engagement strategic framework to deliver high quality colleague engagement and meet the University's continuous improvement overarching KPI for engagement.
  • In collaboration with the Engagement Working Group, the Engagement Leads network and other key stakeholders, develop, implement and manage a mix of strategic and operational colleague experience initiatives and related communication activities to deliver an excellent employee experience. This includes, but is not limited to, organising the collaborative delivery of action plans arising from analysis of Colleague Engagement survey results.
  • Build and maintain effective professional relationships, positively challenge ambitions, share good practice and collaborate to deliver improvements to colleague engagement and related communications to support engagement activities such as sharing best practice, and providing specialist advice and professional support to senior stakeholders and other colleagues.
  • Provide professional and specialist advice and support to colleagues delivering engagement at a local level across the University. Where required, author bespoke SMG papers, guidance and materials.
  • Work in partnership with other POD colleagues and colleagues in External Relations to create consistency across internal communications to support the institution's strategic narrative. As required, extend support to the University Internal Communications team in communicating, engaging and empowering our colleagues to inspire wider staff awareness of and participation in engagement activities and support successful delivery of the engagement strategy.
  • Lead the facilitation of the Engagement Leads Network to support local engagement activity across the University. Provide specialist advice to the Network in their delivery of engagement initiatives, for example, local dialogue methods. Clerk and provide light administrative support for the Engagement Working Group.
  • Lead the collation of insights and design light touch evaluation mechanisms to ensure the effectiveness of the delivery of colleague engagement activities, including identifying shortfalls and pursuing opportunities for continuous improvement.
  • Responsible for the development and maintenance of webpages and internal communications relating to colleague engagement.
  • Manage relationships with relevant suppliers including surveying partner agencies, achieving optimum service and value for money and operating in accordance with University procurement guidelines.
  • Undertake other tasks and duties as required by the Director of Organisational Development and Executive Director of People and OD.

Knowledge, Qualifications, Skills and Experience

Knowledge/Qualifications

Essential
A1 Educated to first degree level or equivalent in a related business discipline and/or equivalent relevant experience.
A2 Proven track record in the delivery of engagement and/or communications.
A3 Understanding of Higher Education organisations, purpose, infrastructure
A4 Significant experience of effective organisational engagement approaches and/or related professional qualification
A5 Understanding of listening methodologies including surveying and good practice of their delivery, including an understanding of the principles of information, data handling and GDPR


Desirable
B1 Professional Organisational Development, HR, Communications or related qualification and/or equivalent relevant experience.
B2 A knowledge of People and Organisational Development services.


Skills

Essential
C1 Excellent written and verbal communication skills including experience of preparing and presenting complex information.

C2 Robust, flexible resilient approach to managing and influencing a range of audiences, in particular the ability to handle a wide range of contacts at different levels throughout the organisation tactfully and persuasively.

C3 Data analytical skills sufficient to analyse survey results and other engagement data
C4 Web management and editing, and digital communications skills.
C6 Ability to organise information in a clear and simple way.
