The Accounts Assistant position would suit a strong finance professional who has experience within the legal sector, is desirable exposure to working with fee earners to manage residual balances and complex reconciliations.

You will work with a larger team who support a vast network of Consultant Solicitors across TRMW.


This role is to actively communicate with Fee Earners within the Consultant Programme, to resolve issues preventing the clearance of 'Residual Balances' while re-enforcing the responsibilities in the consultant contracts to ensure Residual balances are cleared in a timely manner.

Residual Balances are defined and monitored by the SRA (Solicitors Regulation Authority), the firm's regulator. The role may expand in the future to support other aspects of regulatory compliance.


Key Role Activities:


  • Keep track and update records to identify outstanding balances.
  • Plan course of action to reduce overall balance volumes.
  • Locate and contact fee earners to inquire on planned activities.
  • Negotiate and agree timely action by the fee earner.
  • Handle questions or complaints.
  • Investigate and resolve discrepancies.
  • Create trust relationships with fee earners, when possible, to avoid future issues.
  • Update account status and database regularly.
  • Escalate superiors of fee earners unwilling, or unable action required balances.
  • Comply with requirements when legal action is unavoidable.
  • Support the implementation and delivery of a Chargeable Residual Balance Service.
  • Ensure all services provided are correctly billed and charged to the relevant Fee Earner.

Requirements:


  • Experience of working within a similar role within a Solicitor's accounts department.
  • Good understanding of the accounting system, banking system and the case management systems.
  • Full knowledge, experience and understanding of the Solicitors Accounts Rules is required.
  • Ability to communicate at all levels and across all departments.
  • Ability to work independently and as a team.
  • High levels of attention to detail.
