Job Title Facilities Assistant

Location South Camberley Primary and Nursery School

Reporting to Facilities & Estates Manager / School Business Manager

Salary range PS4

Hours 36 hours per week, 52 weeks per year

PURPOSE OF THE JOB

To pro-actively manage the security, care, appearance and availability of the school and grounds, to ensure a satisfactory and safe physical environment.

Will be working across 3 sites, so own transport will be necessary.


Key Accountabilities

  • Have basic knowledge and awareness of health and safety practices and policies, have an understanding of COSHH regulations and attend training in these areas (as required)
  • Carry out daily site walks to ensure the site is safe including daily litter picks, emptying of bins, sweeping and leaf collecting.
  • To assist with the implementation of fire safety and health & safety procedures and policies, including checks and testing (fire alarm, emergency lighting & legionella)
  • Conduct regular equipment checks and preventative maintenance, reporting issues in a timely manner
  • During school holiday assist with planned school maintenance e.g. painting, minor repairs, cleaning - list not exhaustive

Security

  • Act as a key holder and deal with minor security / safety issues
  • To ensure that the buildingshas been alarmed and the school site is safe and secure at all hours
  • Overall security of the school premises including the locking of all windows and doors and the drawing of window blinds
  • Monitor and escort outside contracting staff to ensure compliance with the school policies and procedures
  • Provide such access to the school as may reasonably be required outside the normal hours of opening, including access for lettings and in the event of an emergency

Grounds Maintenance

  • To help to maintain the school grounds to ensure they are fit for purpose
  • Daily Sweep playground, pick up litter and be responsible for the removal of all debris from paths, play areas, grassed areas, flowerbeds and all entrances
  • Daily check of roofs for pooling, loose tiles, plant growth, ensure all gutters and gullies are free flowing etc.
  • Maintain a level of pride in appearance of the sites / buildings
  • Keep all hard surfaces free of moss and weeds
  • Ensure that external rubbish bins are emptied daily and that rubbish is stored (and collected) appropriately
  • Jet wash dustbins regularly
  • Make safe any hazardsand ensure that the area is cordoned off
  • Keep paths, entrances free of ice and snow to ensure the safety of the school community, including visitors

Heating, Lighting & Water

  • Be aware of the location of all stopcocks, gas and electricity meters and take monthly readings
  • Ensure that the boiler house is tidy and that no flammable material is stored there

Health and safety

  • Take appropriate remedial action or report working practices or unsafe conditions that may contravene the requirements of the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 and the Fire Precautions Regulations
  • Check school site and premises regularly and ensure that all areas are safe and free from hazards including perimeter checks

Cleaning

  • To ensure the main school corridors and hall floors are kept clean and that the hall floors are polished annually
  • Carry out cleaning duties as / when required
  • To clear up bodily fluids after accidents adhering to health & safety procedures

General

  • To support the provision of a portering and furniture moving service as required
  • To ensure that orders received into school are delivered to the appropriate area as necessary
  • To work without supervision and act on own initiative as required
  • Prioritise all works to meet deadlines
  • Willingness to work outside the normal working hours as emergencies and operational needs including opening and closing for lettings
  • To be flexible in your approach and be able to provide support across any of the 3 sites as required
  • Preparation of school areas for functionsas required
  • Attend any department training sessions and / or meetings as required
  • Maintain confidentiality inside and outside of school
  • Work within child protection policies
  • Undertaking any other duties requested by the Facilities Manager / Senior Leadership Team, commensurate with the specific responsibilities of the post.

Salary:
£20,722.00-£22,716.00 per year
