Job Description:


Job Purpose


To be responsible for the creation and completion of the work associated with the analysis and interpretation of laboratory submissions, and where training permits, responsibility for the overall case strategy and examination.

Ultimately, to take ownership of a case and to be responsible for the production of a report, Witness Statement or equivalent and attend Courts of Law as an expert witness as required.

To assist the Business Unit in routinely achieving success.


Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities

  • Adhere to all aspects of the customer Operational Protocol and Eurofins Quality Manual.
  • Ensure all work (including subcontractors) is authorised, completed to contracted / agreed timescales and to estimated cost if applicable.
  • Where required, design case examinations/analysis strategies to efficiently maximise potential of each case.
  • Carry out or instruct others to conduct necessary examinations/analysis as per standard operating procedures to required timescales.
  • Check critical findings in line with standard operating procedures.
  • Manage the integrity and continuity of exhibits, including their return.
  • Communicate with customer as appropriate throughout the lifetime of the case and discuss findings with the customer/CPS.
  • Produce a witness statement or equivalent and attend court as requested.
  • Responsibility for the day to day financial obligations and time booking on the case management system (CLIMs) associated with the allocated case.
  • Seek continual improvement of methodology and processes that will have a positive impact on quality and effectiveness.
  • Mentor and advise examiners/analysts in best practices and highlight any quality deficiencies as well as good practices.
  • Interpretation of results/evaluation of findings within CAI model.
  • Responsibility for assisting the management team with the operational task management of other reporting scientists' workload to deal with planned or unplanned extractions within the team (e.g. illness, annual leave, court etc.) to ensure the needs of the customer are met.

Qualifications:


Knowledge, Experience and Technical Skills
Developing Reporter

  • Scientific degree.
  • Trained and competent in reporting DNA, including mixtures.
  • Successfully completed and passed expert witness course.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and adherence to the required Customer Operational Protocols, Standard Operating Procedures, Quality Management System, Health & Safety documents and CPS requirements.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and adherence to the Forensic Science Regulator's Codes of Practice and Conduct.
  • Awareness and understanding of other evidence types
Established Reporter (all the above plus)

  • Routinely achieved all KPIs as a developing reporter
  • Trained and competent in blood (nonBPA), semen, saliva and cellular reporting at activity level
  • May report BPA, hairs, fibres, urine, faeces, damage
Senior Reporter (all the above plus)

  • Trained and competent in activity level peer review
  • Trainer &/or coach.
