To provide a professional Personnel Security Service to the Sellafield, Risley sites and all other off-site locations, assisting the Personnel Security Vetting Aftercare Team to ensure Regulatory and Company Personnel Security issues are addressed and satisfied so that sites remain compliant in line with Nuclear Industries Security Regulations (NISR) 2003 as amended and Nuclear Site Security Plan (NSSP).

Specifically, these roles provide the delivery of Co-operation of Departments with responsibility for delivering Vetting and Ongoing Personnel Security and Ongoing Personnel Security.


  • To manage or support cases where individuals may become or be a security concern, working with Line Managers and other Stakeholders such as HR Case Management, Occupational Health and Law Enforcement agencies to investigate and risk assess security concerns in a proportionate manner following agreed process on a casebycase basis.
  • To provide intervention and support for Sellafield Ltd Employees, Contractors and ASWs relating to any change in personal circumstance that could impact on their National Security Vetting clearance.
  • Promote and develop the profile of Vetting Aftercare in SL and the Supply Chain.
  • Develop and maintain a point of contact for liaison with internal and external stakeholders in relation to strategic Vetting Aftercare delivery.
  • To provide advice and guidance on current best practice to relevant stakeholders within Sellafield Ltd and the supply chain.
  • To manage, retain and dispose of confidential personal data in compliance with Data Protection requirements.
  • To monitor the activities of Sellafield Ltd resources through a variety of means and investigate any suspicions or irregularities.
  • To provide a liaison between all areas of security within the business and local law enforcement, providing guidance, assistance and awareness where needed.
  • To interface with multiple stakeholders, both internal and external, including Civil Nuclear Constabulary, Cumbria Constabulary, Office for Nuclear Regulation.
  • To advise on the requirements of the NSSP and monitor implementation in the respective Operating Units and throughout the Supply Chain. Advise on the requirement and enable production of bespoke personnel security risk management plans.
  • To contribute to improvement initiatives within the OUs/projects which have an impact upon security and promote a positive security culture in line with Sellafield Ltd Nuclear Professionalism Standards and Expectations.
  • To suspend site access to the Sellafield Site and IT Network on behalf of the Personnel Security Manager in response to emergent security concerns.
  • To actively promote Vetting Aftercare, interpreting and delivering advice and information in relation to the management of insider threat.

Essential Skills

  • Degree (minimum 2:2) or equivalent relevant experience.
  • Previous experience of working in personnel security.
  • Proven ability to work to deadlines and an ability to changing priorities.
  • A high level of honesty and integrity.
  • Good communication, both written and oral.
  • Good judgement and decision making when dealing with the personal circumstances of others.
  • Good Stakeholder management skills.

Desirable Skills:


  • Experience of working directly with a regulatory body.
  • Experienced investigator.
  • Experience of planning and delivering interviews within a legal framework.
  • Experience working directly with a law enforcement organization.
  • An understanding of the key principles of Personnel Security within a Civil Nuclear environment.
