Communicator-Guide:


  • To support a deafblind person to live independently and take an active part in their community
  • To enable service users to manage their finances and correspondence
  • To enable service users to access their community and everyday life, facilitating effective communication, safe guiding, and choice and control
  • To enable service users to access both written and spoken information
  • To enable service users to maintain their safety within their own homes
  • To assist and support the service user to arrange, and attend meetings with full participation
  • To assist and support service users to attend medical appointments
  • To give impartial information and advice where appropriate
  • Some tasks may include the following:

Shopping:
for food and/or personal items, ensuring effective communication when shopping such as letting the service user know about discounts and other information that is not accessible to them without Communicator-Guide support

  • To support service users with leisure activities: swimming, bowling, day care, clubs/groups, pubs, walking, visiting different places of interest, etc.


To ensure communicator-guides are well supported, active listening and supporting them when issues arise, proactively problem solving so that we are all working together to meet the deafblind persons aims and DBE is meeting our contractual agreements.

Honest and Reliable

Ability to use clear speech.

British Sign Language Level 1, 2 or 3 desirable.

Training:

Signature Level 2 Communicator-Guide Training will be available at Head Office in Peterborough which is a requirement of the job.


Job Types:

Salary:
From £14.50 per hour
