Purpose:

To support the Academy in creating and maintaining the foundations of safeguarding and safer working practice.


The Role:


Safeguarding - Practices & Processes:


  • Embed the Safeguarding Children & Adult at risk policy, developing effective safeguarding procedures and guidelines which support academy activity and are approved by Head of Safeguarding. This extends to embedding an understanding of key safeguarding legislation, most notably Keeping Children Safe in Education & the Prevent Duty, working in partnership with the Head of Safeguarding and the Academy Education Team ensuring compliance and actions taken to meet our obligations.
  • Lead on the effective feedback from stakeholders across the academy provision to inform safeguarding and other applicable improvements.
  • Working in partnership with the Head of Safeguarding, identify and mitigate safeguarding risks, and provide timely reports of actions required/actions undertaken to the Academy Management Team and Head of Safeguarding which will improve practice and operations.
  • Quality assurance processes are evolved to maintain safe environments and meet the requirements of Safe To Operate, and Premier League Safeguarding (Rules S) & Standards.
  • Ensure that the Academy is always audit ready for audit and support the Head of Safeguarding with audit compliance processes, ensuring the Head of Safeguarding is up to date with compliance requirements.

Safeguarding - People:


  • Act as a source of expertise and mentor Academy colleagues in effect planning, delivery, and review of academy events. Most notably providing clear expectations and support for events, trips/tours and tournaments and the transport provision.
  • Support the implementation of the approved workforce development plan by facilitating training to Academy colleagues, third party individuals and as adhoc. This will be part of onboarding and renewals process which incorporates key thematic and lessons learnt to enhance the academy culture.
  • Engage with the Safeguarding Team for management of allegations and lowlevel concerns associated with the workforce, extended to ensuring the Recruitment policy and Management of Criminal Records policy is embedded in the academy.
  • Collaboratively work with the Head of Safeguarding on fact findings of higher threshold concerns associated with players, parents/carers, and the workforce, ensuring that all management of allegations, ensuring that all wellbeing/welfare & safeguarding concerns are recorded in a timely manner on MYCONCERN.
  • Support the embedding of appropriate supervision and mentoring of colleagues who manage or are impacted by safeguarding/wellbeing concerns.

Principal Accountabilities

  • Create and maintain a childfocused environment, which is underpinned by clear safeguarding principles and practices.
  • Ensure that the safeguarding delivery contributes to the Academy's vision to be renowned as a world leading learning & development community for young people and staff.
  • Embed clear policies and robust reporting processes which are supported by learning and development for all within the Academy.
Be an active member of the Safeguarding Team and Academy Team, contributing learning and development to enhance practice.


The Person:


Skills & Knowledge

  • Technical and practical knowledge in safeguarding children, young people and adults at risk evidenced by a relevant professional qualification as safeguarding leader you will need to have a significant level of professional knowledge to provide the best safeguarding outcomes
  • Strong interpersonal and influencing skills, able to manage conflict and handle difficult and or sensitive issues
  • Able to supervise, mentor and support staff remotely

Experience

  • Must have demonstrable knowledge of safeguarding in a range of settings and across diverse communities
  • Experience of implementing change within safeguarding settings, working collaboratively across wider teams and empowering colleagues to be effective within all aspects of safeguarding practice
  • Experience of building and maintaining relationships with external agencies, referral pathways and organizations
  • Experience of performance improvement in a complex organisation using all forms of data
