The role

We are looking for a member of staff to join the team serving the students in Pantycelyn. The standard hours are 16:30 to 19:30 Monday to Friday for the period of the license agreement (34 weeks). Pantycelyn is a Welsh medium hall so Spoken Welsh is essential for this position.


Appointments are normally made within - 8 weeks of the closing date.
What you'll do

  • To work as directed by their line manager in the service delivery of the Hospitality department to our customers.
  • Cleaning of the kitchen, equipment, service areas, crockery, cutlery and glassware.
  • Setting out of counters and food displays as directed by your line manager.
  • Maintaining and replenishing of dispensing machines.
  • To assist in the preparation of food and beverages to include the making of sandwiches and rolls.
  • Serving customers in any of the university's catering outlets and areas
  • Taking of cash and operation of epos tills.
  • Maintaining adequate stocks in the front of house areas and replenishment of displays.
  • Assisting in stock takes as requested.
  • To work in a manner that complies with HACCP, COSHH, and UWA safety policy.
  • To be an active, flexible and dedicated member of the Hospitality Team.
  • To be in the area of work, at the agreed time according to the staff rota.
  • To be dressed in the correct uniform as laid out in the uniform policy at all times when on duty.
  • To ensure that when you are unable to work, you follow the absence policy of the department.
  • To ensure that all tasks given are carried out in an efficient and timely manner.
  • To be courteous to all customers and fellow members of staff at all times.
  • To ensure that you are knowledgeable of all Food Safety and Health and safety rules and regulations that are applicable to your job role.
  • To ensure that you notify your line manager of any training requirements that you may have to do your job.
  • All staff are responsible for the safe working environment for the staff and customers.
  • All staff must inform their line manager immediately they are aware of any risk or hazard that could affect themselves or others.
  • To work in line with all University of Aberystwyth policies and procedures.
  • To ensure that they assist in the University's Bilingual policy.
  • To help the department and the University in its environmental and sustainable policies by good working practices.
  • To work in areas of the University and at the times that have been agreed with your line manager.
  • To assist management and staff colleagues in their daytoday work.
  • To ensure that their method of work is not detrimental to other staff or the departments work practices.
  • The position also requires for the Hospitality Assistant to be fully flexible in meeting. the needs of the department and is therefore able to work in all the areas of the Hospitality department.
  • To undertake health and safety duties and responsibilities appropriate to the post.

Who you are - Qualifications, Experience, Knowledge, and Skills required:
Essential

  • Previous experience in a customer service environment.
  • Good face to face communication skills in order to receive, understand and convey straightforward information.
  • Flexible working attitude and willingness to learn.
  • The ability to work unsupervised.
  • The ability to work as part of a team.
  • Able to work evenings and weekends.
  • Oral (spoken) Welsh Level B1* and Written Welsh Level A2* or evidence to demonstrate an ongoing commitment to learn Welsh to this level.
Desirable

  • Full valid UK driving licence, or equivalent right to drive in the UK.
  • Knowledge of Basic Food Hygiene
  • Experience of Manual Handling.
  • Previous catering experience.
  • Oral (spoken) and Written Welsh Level B2.
