Background on the Position
The role will reside within Firm Risk Management's Operational Risk Department (ORD)

Operational Risk refers to the risk of financial or other loss, or potential damage to a firm's reputation, resulting from inadequate or failed internal processes, people, systems, or from external events (e.g., fraud, legal and compliance risks or damage to physical assets).

The Firm may incur operational risk across the full scope of its business activities, including revenue-generating activities (e.g., sales and trading) and control groups (e.g., information technology and trade processing).

This position directly supports a senior-level team in operational risk by providing analytical, decision-making, and presentation support.

Firm Risk Management (FRM) supports Morgan Stanley to achieve its business goals by partnering with business units across the Firm to realize efficient risk-adjusted returns, acting as a strategic advisor to the Board and protecting the Firm from exposure to losses as a result of credit, market, liquidity, operational, model and other risks.

What will you be doing?

  • Second line oversight and challenge of Operational Risks for EMEA businesses
  • Support transparency and evolution of the overarching Framework through thought leadership and proactive challenge of risk identification, prevention and detection controls and processes, and metrics
  • Collaborate with and also challenge ORD Coverage teams in the design, configuration and implementation of deep dives and Portfolio Analysis
  • Own the production and distribution of monthly and quarterly risk management reporting for ORD
  • Ongoing communication with EMEA FRM COO team.
  • Support the implementation of reviews of incidents, risk and control assessments, management information, etc.
  • Assist the EMEA Head of ORD in preparation and execution of Governance responsibilities

QUALIFICATIONS

  • What we're looking for:
  • A Bachelors degree or equivalent
  • Extensive financial services experience, including Risk Management
  • Strong technical understanding of sales and trading, investment banking, and investment management businesses
  • Strong risk, process and control validation and/or assessment skills a prior role within consulting or internal audit covering risk processes is preferable
  • The ability to effectively communicate with a wide range of stakeholders, both written and verbally
  • Collaborate with teams and stakeholders throughout FRM and across other Divisions
  • Confidence to take ideas forward and to challenge others, where appropriate, with experience in management by influence, facilitating and gaining consensus
  • Exposure to Qlikview, Tableau or other BI capability (preferred)
  • Strong MS Powerpoint and MS Excel skills (preferred)
