This leading not-for-profit organisation provides Prisons Careers Advice service in Surrey and seeks an experienced
Careers Adviser to work at HM Prison Downview, HMP Send and HMP Coldingley.
The organisation delivers career information, advice and guidance (IAG) services, supporting prison residents with a structured education pathway, work and training during their stay in custody.
Based across the three Surrey prison sites, you can motivate and build rapport with individuals from various backgrounds and be non-judgemental.
This post will involve working with other key prison partners to support residents during the induction process and for the length of their sentences.
A Personal Learning Plan (PLP) is produced for every prison resident, identifying their short, medium, and long-term skills and targets.
Careers Adviser Qualifications and Experience

Qualified Careers Adviser IAG qualification at Level 3 or above:
- Maths and English GCSE grade C or above (or equivalent)
- A commitment to undertake all necessary training for the role
- Experience working with offenders in prison or the community
- Awareness of the social and economic issues affecting people
Careers Adviser Main Responsibilities:
- Be responsible for delivering a highquality IAG service in one or more prisons.
- Work with the prison staff to manage, mentor and support a caseload of peer workers to deliver inspirational IAG in both 1:1 and group sessions as required.
- Deliver approximately 25% of the Personal Learning Plans and work to ensure the delivery of the remainder through trained peer workers.
- Coach and support a team of peer workers to ensure effective and highquality delivery
- Work with the education provider to ensure that all appropriate individuals are supported
