Job Purpose:


Responsible for leading delivery teams from a technical perspective, ensuring that work is completed in line with good engineering practices; operating within a product development team.


Key Accountabilities:


  • Ensures that the delivery team remains focused on high quality engineering practices whilst endeavouring to deliver projects on time and on budget.
  • Spreads good engineering practices within the delivery team and the wider organization
  • Leads and supports one or more delivery teams.
  • Works with project stakeholders to ensure they know what is expected of them in a quality IT engineering project delivery.
  • Works within and educates others about the engineering practices used by the delivery teams, such as TDD, BDD, peer review, design patterns, frequent regular user feedback.
  • Will lead and facilitate teams doing iterative development that have not yet fully adopted Agile practices as well as more genuinely Agile teams.
  • Ensures that stakeholders are kept up to date with progress on quality metrics.
  • Helps teams to become better engineers, whatever their current engineering maturity.
  • Stays up to date with good engineering practice and helps to spread this within the wider development organisation.
  • Takes an active role in the development of other staff through mentoring of more junior technical and engineering resources.

Knowledge, Experience & Technical Know how:

  • Demonstrable track record of leading software delivery.
  • Breadth and depth of knowledge of a range of engineering tools, practices and technologies.
  • Experience of working with people outside of engineering or who are new to engineering approaches.
  • Stakeholder management and influencing skills covering colleagues, partners / vendors and project sponsors.
  • To have recognized expertise in engineering flexible and scalable solutions on a multitenant platform.
  • Good knowledge of Systems Development Lifecycle processes.
  • Experience in both waterfall and agile development approaches.
  • Experience in estimating, planning and supplier management.
  • Experience of forming teams and knowledge of team dynamics and how to optimise a team for high performance.
  • Experience of working with offshore delivery teams.

What you'll get:

A competitive salary between £45,000 - £55,000 - dependent on capability.


As well as your base salary, you will receive a bonus based on personal and company performance and a competitive contributory pension scheme where we will double match your contribution to a maximum company contribution of 12%.
