Job Purpose


To look at our pupils holistically and carry out specific direct educational work within the community which will support our pupils in achieving their Education and Health Care Plan (EHCP) targets and/or any social care plans.

To create leadership opportunities for our pupils that encourage and support self development, responsibility and resilience.


Main duties and responsibilities


Support the class teacher (virtually) in ensuring the best possible outcomes for pupils; including the delivery of lessons and related educational activities as specified in the pupils EHCP and any other relevant documentation.


Collaboratively plan, deliver and monitor creative and innovative lessons and projects in accordance with the aims of the relevant documentation, and to work towards good practice outcomes; drawing on a range of resources both from within TCES and utilising appropriate community facilities and activities e.g., internet access, libraries, museums, and historical sites.


Liaise with senior leadership in developing a comprehensive risk assessment and management program, providing appropriate supervision for all your assigned pupils.

Responsible for home/school liaison over matters of attendance, therapeutic support, behaviour support and academic progress.

Ensure that student attendance is reported daily at set times each day to attendance team & geographical cluster leads.


Act as the appropriate adult during working hours and until the pupil is handed over to another adult; in accordance with the pupil's Service Proposal, collect, meet and/or return the pupil to the designated location / person.


Alongside teaching staff, initiate a system of rewards which act as strategies to encourage achievement and the development of self-esteem.


Look at our pupils holistically, drawing on a wide range of social care, therapeutic and teaching strategies to meet pupil needs.


To adhere to both Local Authority and TCES' Child Protection Procedures and ensure at all times that the welfare of the pupil is paramount.

Complete contracts of work and behavioural contracts with pupils, with involvement from their families.


Promote the safety and well-being of the pupils at all times and to ensure that any Child Protection/Family Protection concerns are communicated appropriately and swiftly to senior TCES staff so that all necessary measures may be taken to safeguard and support those concerned.


Maintain awareness of and commitment to the Health and Safety needs of the pupils in their care including adults having contact with them.

Ensure that pupils understand the TCES Complaints Procedures and their right to remain free from harm.

Prepare and submit reports for parents/carers and the LA within given time frames

Ensure the pupils documentation is reviewed and updated half termly.

Complete a Daly Educational Record (DER) each day and upload to online system.


Complete a weekly communication report; collaborate with Cluster Lead(s) to quality assure and send on to parents/carers and required external stakeholders by the end of the week as directed.

Attend daily schedule morning staff briefing, and after school de-breif, on-site or virtually.

Attend weekly scheduled Friday staff training at pre-determined locations.

Ensure pupils attend daily scheduled assemblies and weekly scheduled celebration assemblies on site or virtually.

Travel with pupils to therapy hub(s) to engage with specialist therapeutic interventions.


Since job descriptions cannot be exhaustive, the post-holder may be required to undertake other duties which are broadly in line with above key responsibilities.


The post-holder is expected to observe and comply with all TCES policies and regulations, for example Code of Conduct, Safeguarding, Keeping Children Safe in Education, Health and Safety, TCES Values, Equality and Diversity etc.

£23,161.00-£25,355.00 per year
