Springbank ward is currently seeking to recruit an enthusiastic Clinical Psychologist to work within their unique award-winning Personality Disorder Unit in Cambridge.

Springbank is the only NHS specialist unit in the country that provides care in a distinctive way adopting least restrictive practice and positive risk-taking strategies.

As the ward psychologist you will have a busy and varied role. The ward adopts Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) as its core approach to assessment, formulation, treatment, and ward structure.

All staff have received some training in DBT and the skills and principles of DBT are woven into all interactions.

You will play a key role in modelling putting theory into practice.

In addition, the post holder will provide support and supervision to junior staff.

The post holder will also provide highly specialist clinical assessments and interventions as required and contribute a psychological perspective to multi-disciplinary reviews and discussions.


Develop psychological formulations of presenting problems or situations that draws upon psychological theory and evidence and which incorporates interpersonal, societal, cultural and biological factors.


Develop and implement plans for the formal psychological treatment and/or management of a client's mental health problems, based upon a conceptual framework of the client's problems, and employing methods based upon evidence of efficacy.

Responsible for implementing a range of psychological interventions for individuals, carers, families and groups.

Evaluate and make decisions about treatment options considering both theoretical and therapeutic models and highly complex factors.

Provide a psychologically based framework of understanding and care to the benefit of all clients of the service.

Undertake risk assessment and risk management for individual clients. To provide advice to other professions on psychological aspects of risk assessment.


Communicate, in a skilled and sensitive manner, to clients, family and carers, information that may be contentious or distressing concerning the assessment, formulation and treatment plans of clients under their care.


Produce reports on clients, in a timely manner, that convey the key findings of psychological assessment and formulation and treatment outcome in a way that does justice to the complexity of the problems described, but that are understandable to the recipients of the reports, including clients and referrer.
