Description
We are seeking a qualified sonographer with UK experience to join our friendly team on the Bedford Hospital Site.


You will work in both the obstetric and main ultrasound departments performing a variety of scans to include general, gynaecological and obstetric scans( nuchal, anomaly and growth scans, Uterine artery / Umbilical artery dopplers and cervical length scans).

FASP NT accreditation is desirable however in house supervision and training can be provided.

We are seeking an enthusiastic, empathic and friendly sonographer with excellent communication skills. You must be a team player with an open minded and flexible approach to working.


Our team consists of the lead sonographer, deputy and 8 other sonographers supported by nurses, CSW's, radiologists and admin staff.

Our extended scope sonographers scan MSK, small parts, groins and hernias.

We are committed to CPD and there will be an opportunity to train, learn and develop new skills.

You will be expected to provide a high level of expertise in Gen Abdominal/Doppler/ Obs and Gynae US scanning and must be able to independently dictate and report on your findings.

You must be familiar with both CRIS and PACS systems. You must have excellent communication skills and a patient focused attitude to working.


At Bedford Hospital Site we work closely with the radiologists, medical staff, nurses and support staff to provide an effective patient focussed service.

To make an accurate diagnosis from the ultrasound scan and to issue a factual report for each scan performed, collaborating with professional colleagues when necessary.


To safely use all ultrasound equipment, to be able to resolve first line problems, recording accurate details of equipment faults, reporting faults and liaising with and supervising engineers.

To participate and understand quality assurance program for ultrasound equipment reporting trends and changes to the superintendent radiographer.

  • To organise and coordinate the area to which they are rostered, undertaking general and Doppler exams ensuring that work is appropriately prioritised and working according to their professional training.
  • To maintain clinical standards according to the departments written protocols and guidelines, ensuring that patient care is paramount in the general ultrasound department and obstetric unit.
  • On a daily basis to undertake a wide range of complex ultrasound examinations interpreting and analysing the clinical and nonclinical facts on the request card, following established protocols in a timely and confident manner. This will require an in depth knowledge of equipment and its capabilities to be able to adapt technique to suit patient condition.

  • To accurately input details on to both the Radiology Information System(CRIS) and PACS
  • To interrogate the system(s) for patient details, updating and recording information as required.
  • To understand the appointment system for the speciality/ area(s) in which the sonographer works.
  • To be fully conversant with the department guidelines, policies
