Chemistry Degree Apprentice

The Role
We are offering an opportunity that gives you hands-on experience from day one.

You will work on real projects within the Process Research Team, based at our R&D Centre at Wilton near Redcar and will be responsible for carrying out analytical and other tests on process intermediates to support our scientists and engineers that who strive to ensure that our strategic research projects underpin new development and support production plants so that we can achieve continued business success.

At the same time, you will be studying for a chemistry degree via an approved apprenticeship provider (Bradford University). All training costs are to be covered as well as being paid a salary.


This is an apprentice position, and the job holder would be expected to complete a business sponsored, distance learning chemistry degree as part of the role.

An integral part of the programme will be yearly summer schools which run for a week in Bradford in early September and January.


Day to Day Activities

  • Perform experimental activities in MCG's Wilton laboratories. Examples include sample preparation, analysis and characterisation using various chemical methodologies and analytical equipment (GC, N2 porosimetry, XRF, etc.)
  • Provide support to activities being done in MCG's Wilton R&D laboratories.
  • Comply and contribute to MCG's safety culture.

About You

  • At least 5 GCSE grades 6 and above including English, Maths and a Science Subject (preferably Chemistry) and hold relevant level 3 qualifications (A levels or equivalent) providing the appropriate number of UCAS points for entry to a level 6 Higher Education Programme.
