SSE's Solar and Battery Storage team is one of the fastest growing parts of SSE Group with an exciting multi-GW pipeline of projects in train and has recently joined SSE Renewables.
In order to accelerate progress towards net zero, SSE Group is investing £7m a day on low carbon infrastructure, creating 1,000 green jobs a year in the process, as part of its £23bn NZAP (Net Zero Acceleration Programme).
Our solar and battery projects will play a crucial role in getting us to net zero by helping to balance the Grid and by helping us to fully harness the power of renewable generation.

Base Location:
Glasgow or Reading
Salary:
Up to £91,700 depending on experience + car / car allowance + performance-related bonus + a range of benefits to support your finances, wellbeing and family.

As Head of Commercial Modelling, you will play a pivotal role in SSE Renewables Solar & Battery by driving our aspiration and commitment to accelerate to net zero, growing our global supply chain, delivering and adding value by defining and securing the business sector propositions.
As the Head of Commercial Modelling, you will lead and nurture a talented team, and be responsible for the modelling development process from end to end.
This will include developing strong market insights, determining priority segments, understanding the needs of the Solar & Battery business, leading the innovation process (considering technology opportunities), driving go to market delivery, and optimising commercial and in-market performance.
All of this across multiple sectors and to the ambitious standards expected from an influential and principal brand.
You will be at the heart of our Commercial Solar & Battery team so you will be expected to inject leadership, energy, pace, rigour, commerciality, and an obsession with delighting in everything we do.
What do I need?
To be considered for this role, we would love you to have:
- An exceptional mix of commercial, proposition development, and delivery leadership skills, which will include innovation development.
- A strong understanding of key commercial concepts including insight, value management, customer experience, and financial performance management.
- Expert knowledge and understanding of the UK & Ireland energy market is essential.
- Experience with modelling investment outcomes including discounted cash flow (DCF), internal rate of return (IRR), net present value (NPV) and good accountancy skills (P&L/cashflow/BS build up/depreciation/tax calc's).
- Ability to communicate, influence and manage the expectations of a range of internal and external stakeholders, at times making sure technical information is presented accurately and effectively understood by the audience.
