Job description:


SSG is a business unit within the DIO which assists the MoD and the wider Government Estate in meeting its security requirements.


SSG has over 220 staff located throughout the UK, Germany, Cyprus and Gibraltar responsible for the design, installation and maintenance of security systems across the MOD and Government Estate with an ambitious target to increase this number to 260 by March 2025.

Can you support MOD with securing some of the countries' most important buildings and locations?


This is an exciting, interesting and challenging role within Government Security at high profile and technically complex Defence sites, other Government Departments and Critical National Infrastructure security programs.


The role will represent SSG across the top level of the MoD, with our National Technical Authority colleagues and across UKIC as well as liaising with Front Line Command PSyAs.


  • Coordinate activities across SSG to drive continuous improvement and encourage the sharing of knowledge and best practice through developing effective relationships with all stakeholders, and in order to inform and influence security and resilience decisions.
  • Maintain strategic oversight of all aspects of security and resilience across SSG to include, but not limited to; physical, information, cyber, communications, personnel; thirdparty assurance. Ensuring security and business continuity is delivered in alignment with organisational objectives of SSG.
  • Support SSG in delivering an efficient, wellinformed and coordinated service in a fastpaced environment, providing direct support to the Directorate Of Security & Resilience in delivering the Technical Authority for Physical and Technical Security support that is accurate, expert and timely.

Person specification:


  • Provide direct support to the Directorate of Security & Resilience in delivering the Technical Authority for Physical and Technical Security.
  • Assist in delivering Security technical standards through SSG Training and Education
  • The SSG lead for all Technical Authority matters.
  • Provide the SSG interface with MoD DSR, NTAs, TLB/FLC on TA matters.
  • Provide the SSG interface within DIO on all TA matters.
  • Assist the Technical Director with development of PSAT and the Advisory & Assurance role.
  • Assist Operation Managers and Team Leaders with Security advice.
  • Assist the Technical Director with the development of future technologies and their relationship with the NTA / FLCs.
  • Be an active member of the SSG Higher Management Group.

Desirable Experience & Skills

  • Have a deep understanding of Defence Security at the Departmental level.
  • Have contemporary experience of MoD Front Line Commands.
  • Be familiar with the Defence environment at the senior management level.
  • Have experience of Security across government areas at the senior management level.
  • Understanding of the MoD security architecture; notably Directorate of Security & Resilience (DSR), Physical Security Advisors (PSyA), Centre For The Protection On National Infrastructure (CPNI) and the National Authority For Counter Eavesdropping (NACE) Experience.
  • Knowledge and experience within the MOD.

Licences:


  • Full Driving Licence required
  • Essential for travel to/from sites some of which are remote and not accessible by public transport. A vehicle/hire car will be provided.
