Board Member

Flexible - Most meetings held via MS Teams. Away days for 2023 are scheduled to be held in person in Cheltenham. Other in person meetings held infrequently in West Bromwich or Chippenham.

Salary - £10,046 per annum

Working hours - Part Time hours per month. Includes six Board meetings per year, as well as attendance at four quarterly Committee meetings and two away days per year)

About the role


This is an exciting opportunity as we seek to strengthen our highly ambitious board and committees with individuals who bring specific skills and expertise in certain key areas.

We are seeking new board members who will bring guidance and insight to the Board.

The skills and experience we are particularly interested in are:


  • Asset Management, property maintenance, building safety, planned improvements. A good understanding of housing management practices would be advantageous
  • Audit / Risk / Finance
  • General Corporate / Business Skills, including HR, People Management and Culture)
  • Social Housing and lived experience


Board members contribute to the setting of GreenSquareAccord's strategic direction, working positively with the Executive Team to ensure they are held to account for the overall performance of the organisation and compliance with regulation and legislation.


The Board also ensures that risks to the organisation are understood and managed, helping to safeguard assets, finances, customers and our colleagues.

Board members will usually be expected to serve on two Committees. Committee meetings are quarterly and during the day with additional meetings, training and ad-hoc engagements arranged as required.


Within the role, you will set a positive culture, with a strong customer focus and emphasis on equality, diversity and inclusion while challenging and questioning in a positive and constructive manner.


You will also ensure skills and sector awareness are kept up to date and participate in learning and development sessions.


Please note that if you are successful in this role, we will require a DBS check to be completed and references covering the last two years; either from employers or from organisations where you are / have been on the Board and / or undertaken other senior management roles. About you


It is essential that you have a demonstrable commitment to GreenSquareAccord - its values, strategic objectives and cause and hold strong interpersonal and relationship building abilities; tact and diplomacy, with the ability to listen and engage effectively.


You will ideally have experience of working in the social housing sector at a senior or executive level and/or have a willingness to develop an understanding of the housing sector.

You will understand the key drivers and challenges currently facing the sector and have the ability to work effectively at a strategic level.


Demonstrable and wide-ranging leadership skills with the ability to foster and promote a collaborative team environment is required, along with the understanding of risk, internal controls and assurance and how to operate against a regulatory backdrop.
