About Us:

THE EXTRAORDINARY STORY OF SERENA'S VISION
Growth, Planning and Housing in Westminster City Council is a world of extraordinary stories. Where innovative and open-minded people bring everything to the cause. Even expertise from surprising places.

Take Serena. She is an absolute force of nature at the heart of our Church Street regeneration. And she puts the residents first in everything. Serena's vision is clear. Regeneration isn't just about bricks and concrete. It's about communities. It's about the environment. It's about the lives of people and how they feel about where they call home. Serena is their advocate, making sure residents' voices aren't just heard, but drive the changes we're making. The future is safe in her hands.

The Role:

As a Youth Advocate, as part of a wider Resident Advocacy and Engagement Team, you can make your own powerful contribution to the lives of Westminster residents.

Working across the City and particularly in the areas of significant deprivation, you'll focus on young people, creating amazing opportunities for them in everything from sport to work experience.

Helping to initiate, influence and evaluate new multi-agency projects that improve opportunities and empower young people, you'll work with teams such as Children's Services, Leisure and Community Services and also in collaboration with external partners such as schools, colleges and voluntary sector agencies.

There are some outstanding organisations in Westminster and you'll make sure the young people most in need get to access them.

Ensuring that the voices of young people are heard in the communities where they live will also be a vital part of the role and you will make certain they are consulted when shaping our services.

It will take imagination, enthusiasm, understanding and tenacity to succeed but you'll have the reward of making positive things happen for young people and their families.

About You:

A problem-solver, a collaborator, a change-maker and a negotiator, you're likely to have some knowledge of the challenges facing young people in areas of deprivation and need.

A practised communicator, with strong questioning and listening skills, you'll be equally at home in a youth club, hearing from young people about their issues, and in professional meetings bringing together different organisations in the development of solutions.

Your excellent understanding of the range of services offered by the council and partner organisations means you're capable of providing information and signposting opportunities for young people.

Some understanding of safeguarding and risk assessment is also important.

What We Offer:
Westminster is an amazing place.

We are home to over 250,000 residents from all backgrounds, over 50,000 vibrant and vital businesses and three-quarters-of-a-million people work in Westminster.

Westminster City Council's strategy is to work towards a Fairer Westminster.

A Fairer Westminster is one in which our communities are at the heart of our decision-making and help to determine the city's future.

By working directly with our communities and other partners, we can build a more inclusive city that celebrates our diverse communities, and where residents, workers and visitors from all backgrounds will feel welcome and safe.

As a forward-thinking Council we appreciate that people work in different ways, therefore our staff benefit from working a range of flexible working patterns as well as Agile working.
