JOB PURPOSE:

We are looking for a committed Youth Worker/Climber to work with and create relationships with young people. Utilising our indoor climbing wall with auto-belay and top rope climbing to challenge young people's fears.

You will be someone who can use the wall for a range of challenges and programs, you will develop plans with the Sports Co-Ordinator to create sessions that are fun, positive, and challenging.

You will make the climbing wall to and facilitate conversations with young people to give them someone to talk to about what is going on in their lives, exploring their hopes, fears, and dreams.

This is a great opportunity for someone looking to progress and develop their career in Youth Work or transition into the sector.

Do you want to use your skills knowledge and passion to enable young people to have somewhere to go, something to do and someone to talk to?


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES


In collaboration with the Sports Coordinator, develop climbing and outdoor events programmes, ensuring the activities develop and expand to meet the changing needs of the young people.


To ensure the highest standards of Health and Safety are maintained in the climbing area and during any outdoor adventures, including the monitoring of climbing wall safety practices.


To carry out inductions for new users of the climbing wall and provide continuous supervision when the climbing wall is in use, promoting best practice and safe use by young people.

To ensure that all equipment required for each session is fit for purpose including ropes, harnesses and belays; to ensure equipment is stored correctly and securely at the end of each session (including recording and maintaining various logs)


To assist in the completion of risk assessments/accident reports and to report to the relevant Session Manager / Lead any accidents / incidents that require attention.

To deliver accredited awards, such as NICAS, and motivate and support young people to participate fully in climbing sessions.


To keep up to date with policies and / or procedures required for the safe operation of the climbing wall.

To manage and support sessional staffing requirements for outdoor adventure activities within NGB guidelines.


To work flexibly and inclusively to ensure the needs of all young people are met, particularly those with disabilities or additional needs.


To ensure young people maintain a high standard of behaviour and discipline during sessions by making the area a hub of activity and fun.

To promote cultural cohesion and inclusion and proactively challenge any prejudice and discrimination

Carry out any other reasonable duties as requested by management

Be committed to a culture of continuous improvement.

Work within the performance framework of Future Youth Zone and OnSide.


To be alert to issues of safeguarding and child protection, ensuring the welfare and safety of Youth Zone members is promoted and safeguarded, and to report any causes of concerns to the Session Lead or Safeguarding team (training will be provided).

To assist with any promotional activities and visits that take place at the Youth Zone.


To comply with all policies and procedures, with reference to safeguarding, codes of conduct, health and safety, and equality and diversity, to ensure all activities are safe, accessible and inclusive.

Sun - 2.45pm - 7.15pm,

Part-time hours: 15-20 per week
