Our staff have decades of experience in the delivery of Apprenticeships that meet the needs of outdoor centres, schools, adventurous activity and recreation providers and outdoor learning charities, social enterprises and voluntary organisations.

Channel Training specializes in the Outdoor Learning Specialist, Outdoor Activity Instructor and Community Activator Coach Apprenticeship Standards.

This is a modern, dynamic role in a progressive company.

The Skills Tutor will have a reduced learner caseload in order to facilitate and run a significant number of NGB and skills courses for apprentices across the country.


The Role

General

  • Reporting to the Lead Tutor and working with the Skills Development Lead / Quality Manager.
  • Plan, resource and deliver high quality training for Level 2,3 and 5 apprenticeships.
  • Manage own time and resources effectively to meet company, employer and apprentice needs.
  • Manage and develop strong relationships with employers.
  • Market our offer and promote the company and its work.
  • Operate within, and contribute to, the company's Standard Operating Procedures and Risk Assessments.

Specific

  • Tutor for a reduced caseload of approx. 20 apprentices across a number of employers.
  • Coordinate and deliver apprenticeship training.
  • Coordinate and deliver a range of highquality skills and NGB courses for all apprentices, working with the Skills Development Lead.
  • Liaise with End Point Assessment Organisations.
  • Support Internal Quality Assurance as led by the Programme Manager.
  • Deliver the content of apprenticeship standards, including observations.
  • Prompt assessment and feedback on OneFile and in the workplace.
  • Support the development of Programmes of Study and resources for each Apprenticeship Standard.
  • Undertake timely apprentice reviews.
  • Support apprentices in logging off the job training and use of OneFile.
  • Invigilate exams as required (e.g. functional skills).

Accountable for the progress and achievement of apprentices

  • Support active marketing visits to potential new clients, sharing promotional materials, attendance at outdoor centre open days, providing advice and guidance, liaison with employer staff.
  • Support recruitment contact with employers, support with shortlisting, selection, induction, supporting employer staff, presence at outdoor centre open days and interviews.

Skills and Occupational Requirements

Essential

  • An understanding of Apprenticeships in our sector and of their importance in workforce development.
  • Competent in the use of current ICT and have experience of virtual learning environments and eportfolios.
  • Have personal PC / laptop, mobile phone and highquality broadband and 4G appropriate for the role.
  • Have appropriate professional home office for work and glitchfree communication.
  • Knowledge and experience in the outdoor sector with a current understanding of the training required to develop as an outdoor instructor.
  • Level 3 Award in Education and Training or equivalent.
  • Level 3 Award in Assessing Vocationally Related Achievement or equivalent.
  • First Aid at Work or Advanced Outdoor First Aid
  • MTA Mountain Leader Award
  • 1 of the following:
  • MTA Rock Climbing Development Instructor & Foundation Coach
  • MTA Mountaineering and Climbing Instructor & Foundation Coach
  • Archery GB Provider
  • A full, clean UK driving licence and own vehicle appropriate for business use.

Desirable

  • Knowledge and experience in education / adult learning and Apprenticeships.
  • Level 4 Certificate in Education and Training / Level 3 Certificate in Assessing Vocational Achievement
  • Level 4 Award in IQA.
  • Outdoor First Aid provider.
  • Bushcraft instructing experience.
  • MTA Lowland Leader course tutoring experience.
  • MTA Climbing Wall Instructor course tutoring experience.
  • Archery GB provider experience.
  • British Canoeing Coach Award.
  • BC Paddlesport Instructor Course provider.
  • BC Paddlesport Safety and Rescue Course provider.

**Full time, permanent role, salary £29k pa. Home-based, working independently, online and through F2F training, courses, meetings and visits. The role involves travel between outdoor centres and venues, overnight stays and blocks of time away from home. O
