We are currently seeking to recruit a motivated and enthusiastic Clinical, Counselling or Educational Psychologist who has a strong interest in working with Children in Care, to join our CAMHS Virtual School Team in Lewisham CAMHS.


If you have relevant skills and experience in working with children and young people in multi-disciplinary and multi-agency settings, or are a newly qualified Psychology Practitioner within interest in this field, we would be delighted to hear from you.

You will join a busy and well-established team consisting of a range of specialities, including Family Therapy, Psychology, specialist teachers and mentors.

You will have the opportunity to contribute to the development of the service as a trauma-sensitive setting.


The post holder will have the exciting opportunity to be part of a multi-agency network supporting Children in Care, foster carers and other professionals by offering direct therapeutic support, and indirect interventions including consultations and training from a trauma-informed and attachment-based perspective.

Additional specific training such as Adaptive Mentalization-Based Integrative Treatment (AMBIT) and/or dyadic developmental psychotherapy (DDP) can be provided.


The CAMHS Virtual School team is a joint venture between South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust Lewisham CAMHS and Lewisham Virtual School.

We offer both indirect and direct therapeutic support to children who are in foster care, with the aim to bring a CAMHS perspective to improving emotional wellbeing and access to education.

This involves working in collaboration with Lewisham Children's Social Care, the specialist CAMHS team for looked after and adopted children, as well as residential placements, foster carers, schools, colleges, and alternative provisions.

We are passionate about trauma-informed care, which is an approach that underpins both our work and our team ethos.

The team is designed to be flexible and responsive to the needs of Children in Care, and that of the professionals who are supporting them.


About the location:


Our team is located at Lewisham Park Centre for Children & Young People, 78 Lewisham Park London SE13 6QJ less than 8 minutes from the train station (zone 3).

However, our services extend to all Lewisham Children in Care including those who are placed out of borough.


Job Purpose:


  • The post holder will work collaboratively with Lewisham Virtual school to bring a CAMHS perspective to improving emotional wellbeing and readiness to learn of Children in Care.
  • Increase the awareness and early identification of mental health difficulties in looked after children and young people in education.
  • To offer CAMHS expertise to the wider professional network including teachers, SENCOs and other professionals within the school system.
  • Enable networks to positively support Children in Care experiencing difficulties by providing them with appropriate strategies and skills.
  • To undertake service evaluation, audit and research to inform further service development and quality improvement.
  • To work as an autonomous professional within BPS and HCPC guidelines and codes of conduct, and guided by the policies and procedures of the service, taking responsibility for own work including treatment and discharge decisions with support of clinical supervisor.
  • To take a lead in offering clinical oversight and supervision of other appropriate members of the wider service e.g. Band 6 colleagues and Assistant Psychologists.
  • Facilitate early direct interventions where there are difficulties with education (e.g. assessment, formulation, brief therapeutic interventions with the young person and/or foster carer/parent)
  • Show commitment in promoting equality, inclusion and celebrating diversity within the local CAMHS population and workforce.
