Description

As a Senior Healthcare Support Worker you will have experience and training in clinical practice and other clinical settings, providing personalised care to outreach patients using Torbay Hospital Rapid Recovery Programme and undertaking clinical tasks with supportive supervision.


Assisting the Registered Nursing staff in the planning, implementation and evaluation of nursing care, and provide advice and education to patients, families, carer's on all aspects of the Rapid Recovery Programme in the patients own home environment.


You will work on a 30 hour Permanent contract within a multi-disciplinary team of professionals which will open your eyes to the different roles you might want to work towards in the future.

You can choose to progress as a Nursing Associate or Assistant Practitioner or specialise in a particular setting


You will be working within a small team in the Orthopaedic department delivering post operative care to Elective joint replacement patients in their home environment.


As the service operates 7 days a week, its important you can be flexible to work weekends on a rota system and supporting staff on Ella Rowcroft as needed.


At the direction of the Registered Nurse, you will:

  • participate fully in the delivery of planned nursing care
  • Undertake home visits, wound checks, change dressings and remove sutures/clips as required
  • Report any abnormalities to the Rapid Recovery Joint Replacement Nurse. Ensure patients antiembolic stockings are removed and heels checked on a daily basis if worn
  • Perform venepuncture skills competently as required. Reinforce physiotherapy exercises monitor flexion.
  • Liase with ward staff regarding pending discharges.
  • To be aware of patients emotional social and physical needs, reporting back to appropriate healthcare professionals


We are based in South Devon near the coast and not too far from Dartmoor and Exmoor, with just a short commute to our Plymouth and Exeter cities.


Torbay Hospital Trauma and orthopaedics consists of two wards, in addition to our fracture clinic; Ainslie Ward is a Trauma area while Ella Rowcroft is our elective joint replacement ward which is a ring fenced area.
