Description

About Faculty:

Faculty transforms organisational performance through safe, impactful and human-led AI.

We are Europe's leading applied AI company, and saw its potential a decade ago - long before the current hype cycle.

We founded in 2014 with our Fellowship programme, training academics to become commercial data scientists.

Today, we provide over 300 global customers with industry-leading software, and bespoke AI consultancy for retail, healthcare, energy, and governmental organisations, as well as our award winning Fellowship.

Our expertise and safety credentials are such that OpenAI asked us to be their first technical partner, helping customers deploy cutting-edge generative AI safely.

Our high-impact work has saved lives through forecasting NHS demand during covid, produced green energy by routing boats towards the wind, slashed marketing spend by predicting customer spending habits, and kept children safe online.

AI is an epoch-defining technology. We want people to join us who can help our customers reap its enormous benefits safely.

About the role:

Faculty Applied AI is the professional services arm of Faculty.

For nearly ten years we have operated at the cutting edge of AI.

Our multidisciplinary teams of technologists have worked with customers from right across the economy to design, build and run some of the most important AI systems in the UK to date.

We are looking for someone to lead our internal business operations, who has the energy and experience to turn them into a well oiled machine.

This is a rare opportunity to sit at the heart of a fast growing business, and to play a central role in enabling its growth.

What you'll be doing:

You will be responsible for:
-
The performance of internal business processes. The core processes that provide the backbone of our business include resourcing, time recording, internal comms, and knowledge management. You will ensure these processes run smoothly, by making sure that they are well designed, that everyone knows what is expected of them and has what they need to complete them. You will also ensure that these processes are set up to support decision making rather than run for their own sake,, and that performance is monitored.
-
Secretariat to the Applied AI Senior Leadership Team. The SLT provides leadership to the Applied AI business. You will be responsible for making sure that the time of this group is optimised towards making the business function well.
-
Oversight of business improvement programmes. These programmes are sponsored by members of the Senior Leadership Team, and comprise the design, build and implementation of new business processes. You will coordinate and drive forward the execution of these programmes. You will also lead diagnostics and problem solving on existing business processes that need improvement.
-
The commercial tools and technology that we use to run the business. You will own the commercial tech stack;our CRM and our work management software. You will make sure that these tools are set up properly, that people understand how to use them, and you will monitor their performance.
-
Management of the wider commercial operations team. You will provide management to a team of five operational staff, distributed around the Applied AI business. You will ensure that they function well as a cohesive unit, focused at all times on making the business operate more efficiently.

Who you are:

  • You ideally have a background in operations management for a professional services business and understand the importance of well run operations in ensuring the commercial success of a business.
  • You are a complete finisher. You start each day with your to do list and don't rest until it is complete. You treat it as a matter of pride that you see things through, and you get frustrated by half completed tasks.
  • You enjoy working with people. You are skilled at building alliances, bringing people along with you, and affecting change. But are not afraid to put your foot down when needed.
  • You self describe as a bit of a geek. You love technology. You are a problem solver. You constantly seek ways to make things better, and naturally turn to data to guide that.

What we can offer you:

The Faculty team is diverse and distinctive, and we all come from different personal, professional and organisational backgrounds.

We all have one thing in common:
we are driven by a deep intellectual curiosity that powers us forward each day.

This curiosity pushes us to seek truth and understanding in everything we do, to execute work in a nimble and pragmatic manner, to foster talent in one another and always to challenge assumptions.

Faculty is the professional challenge of a lifetime. You'll be surrounded by an impressive group of brilliant minds working to achieve our collective goals. Our consultants, product developers, business development specialists, operations professionals and more al
