We are looking for someone to join our team at Jewson Berkhamsted as a Yard Assistant.


We're a busy and well established branch, with a friendly team who pride themselves on offering a great service and excellent product knowledge.

We have a sales office, warehouse, shop & counter, timber supply and customer delivery vehicles. If you loveworking with people, you're a good listener and you think you could help our customers feel welcome, then this could be a great opportunity for you to join our team

As a
Yard Assistant, your role will be essential to keeping our branch and yard running smoothly.

From serving our customers in the yard to loading vehicles ready for delivery, and from monitoring stock to growing our sales, you'll be atthe heart of our operations.

Experience within our industry is not essential, we are committed to providing you with the full tools and support required to carry out your role within Jewson.


This role has a strong focus on customer service as well as working outside in the yard, so this role is great for someone who loves to build relationships with customers and enjoys working outdoors.

Full work-wear and PPE will be supplied for you.


So, what are we looking for?

  • A genuine enthusiasm for dealing with customers, and a 'customer 1st' attitude
  • Confident working both indoors and outdoors, with a strong focus on H&S
  • Comfortable in a role involving extensive manual handling of bulky items
  • Accuracy and attention to detail
  • A positive team player


A forklift licence would be also be an advantage, however it's not essential as we are happy to organise training for you.


What will I be doing?
As a
Yard Assistant you will have one of the most important roles within the branch network.

You will regularly be the first and last point of contact for customers visiting the branch so you play a huge part in delivering a fantastic customerexperience as well as promoting and maximising sales.

To support the team you will;

  • Welcome customers to the branch and take an active interest in their projects
  • Get to know our product lines so you can offer advice and help to customers
  • Help to prepare and process customer orders
  • Load and unload customer and supplier vehicles using a Fork Lift Truck to minimise manual handling (training will be provided)
  • Check incoming deliveries and report missing or damaged products
  • Maintain stock levels in both the shop and yard areas, carrying out regular stock counts
  • Keep the yard looking clean and tidy, to make a great first impression on our customers
  • Make Health & Safety a priority and demonstrate how you can keep yourself and others safe at work
  • Work with colleagues to suggest opportunities for improvement
