The Centre for Craniofacial & Regenerative Biology at King's College London seeks to appoint a Lecturer in Computational Biology, Bioinformatics and/or Genomics.

Applicants should be early career scientists with an outstanding research track record and an excellent potential to develop an internationally competitive research programme.


The Centre offers an interactive and collaborative environment with research focused on craniofacial and stem cell biology, innovative approaches to regeneration and repair and big data approaches to understand the complexity of development and disease.

The applicant will benefit from our established links with systems biologists within the Faculty, the wider computational community across King's and the new Centre for Applied Bioinformatics.

We are particularly interested in applicants who are keen to use their expertise not only to develop their own research, but also to develop collaborative programmes using computational approaches to understand biological problems.

This is a Full time post - 100 % full time equivalent

Key responsibilities

Research

  • Deliver worldclass research into complex problems & concepts and produce high quality publications to develop an international expert reputation.
  • Provide leadership within their research field attracting external income to support this research programme and leading dedicated research staff.
  • Lead and/or participate in collaborative research programmes within the Centre, across King's, nationally and internationally including developing funding bids.
  • Supervise PhD students and postdoctoral researchers.
  • Participate in Centre and Faculty research activities.
  • Engage with the research community via e.g. conferences, editorial boards, funders, refereeing.
Education

  • Teach at undergraduate and postgraduate levels in allocated areas to appropriate academic standard in line with King's expectations.
  • Contribute to the development, planning and implementation of a highquality curriculum.
  • Participate in exam marking and other forms of assessment.
  • Provide pastoral care and academic support to students.
Administration and Citizenship

  • Support the development of junior staff through line management, mentoring, and appraisals.
  • Carry out administrative duties as requested by the Head of Centre and/or the Executive Dean.
  • Engage across King's to maintain and improve eResearch and infrastructure.
  • Contribute effectively to the achievement of the King's strategic goals.
  • The above list of responsibilities may not be exhaustive, and the post holder will be required to undertake such tasks and responsibilities as may reasonably be expected within the scope and grading of the post._
Skills, knowledge, and experience

Essential criteria

  • Postdoctoral research experience with excellent publication record.
  • Evidence of highquality collaborative research & working in an interdisciplinary team.
  • Clear and ambitious plans for an independent research programme.
  • Ability to develop research proposals for individual and collaborative programmes, to secure funding and to manage awards effectively.
  • Strong and demonstrable expertise in programming languages, statistical techniques, machine learning and/or modern deep learning approaches.
  • Experience in and/or strong commitment to excellence in teaching at undergraduate and/or postgraduate level and PhD student supervision, understanding of student needs and how to provide support and guidance.
  • Effective organisation and administration skills.
  • Excellent communication skills across disciplines to explain complex information effectively, both verbally and in writing, engage different audiences such as students, colleagues and the general public.
  • Understanding of and commitment to enhancing Equality, Diversity and Inclusion.
  • Commitment to continuing personal and team professional development.
  • Commitment to research integrity.
