The post holders will be responsible for supporting the Maternity services as a whole but will take the lead for a specific area of the maternity service.

The areas for these matrons posts are Central birth suite/ Antenatal inpatients and triage services and a Matron to the Antenatal outpatient's department across Blackburn and Burnley sites inclusive of established and evolving Subspecialty services such as Complex fetal medicine, complex maternal medicine including diabetes, Antenatal/Newborn Screening and midwifery sonography.


As a Maternity Matron at ELHT you will work closely with the Matrons in Maternity, Neonatology and Gyna ecology as part of the family care division.

You will lead on the operational responsibilities' within your departmental area as part of a multidisciplinary team Triad in line with National and local directives, ultimately ensuring all service requirements are met aligned with the needs of local population and the National maternity safety improvement programmes.

The Maternity services at East Lancashire Hospitals Teaching Hospital (ELHT) offer a wide range of birth choices for over 6,000 women throughout the antenatal, intrapartum and postnatal periods.

The services comprise of three successful birth center's ( Two standalone)and a home birth service for women receiving universal care and the central birth suite for women who require additional complex care.

All birth settings offer excellent facilities.

We take great pride in the excellent preceptorship package which we offer to our newly qualified midwives and the bespoke induction packages that we offer to qualified experienced Midwives joining from other Trusts.


Working with a vision to be widely recognized for providing safe, personal and effective care the Matron will work with the Clinical Director, Divisional director of Midwifery & Nursing /Assistant Director of midwifery, Directorate Manager and Clinical Lead, to lead and manage the Maternity services, enabling East Lancashire Hospitals NHS Trust to become a recognized Centre of clinical, teaching and research excellence.
