The East Suffolk and North Essex NHS Foundation Trust (ESNEFT) is seeking to recruit a senior Health and Safety professional with significant experience in risk management.


This position is responsible for the strategic leadership and management of Health and Safety Trust-wide; and Risk Management for health and safety and the Estates & Facilities division.

Communication and relationship-building with internal and external stakeholders at all levels is key in this role.


Leading the Trusts dedicated Health and Safety Team you will supply specialist advice & consultancy to all staff on matters relating to Health and Safety.

e.g.

Risk Assessment, COSHH, Safer Sharps & Safe Systems of Work; promote learning from incident investigations from both internal incidents & those occurring across the NHS & other industries where applicable; conduct research, deliver a fit testing programme to all relevant staff, develop and disseminate policies required to meet health and safety compliance for the Trust, ensuring that there is a system for the review of Trust health and safety related policies and procedures.


In line with current policy, working time may be split between Trust Acute & Community sites and/or homeworking with agreement from your line manager.


  • Responsible for the strategic leadership and management of Health & Safety Trustwide.
  • To be the "competent person" for Corporate Health and Safety for the Trust.
  • Plan and implement health & safety related training and education to ensure safe, effective practice, compliance with policies/procedures, risk management systems, etc.
  • Undertaking incident investigations preparing reports for management where necessary and make recommendations to reduce the likelihood of recurrence. Be the lead investigator for the serious incidents.
  • Promoting learning from incident investigations from both internal incident and those occurring across the NHS and other industries where applicable to the Trusts business.
  • Work with the Legal Services Team on all nonclinical litigation cases associated with Health & Safety.
  • Linemanage the Health and Safety Manager and Fit Testing Manager.
  • To manage the Trust's fittesting service and ensure that the Trust complies with the minimum DH&SC resilience principles.
  • Providing specialist advice and consultancy to all staff on matters relating to Health and Safety. e.g. Risk Assessment, COSHH, Safer Sharps and Safe Systems of Work.
  • For the research, development and dissemination of policies required to meet the needs health & safety for the Trust and ensuring that there is a system for the review of Trust health and safety related policies and procedures.
