JOB DESCRIPTION Prescription Clerk Responsible to: Lead Dispenser/The Surgery Managers Main purpose of post: To issue repeat medications on behalf of the practice following the surgery protocol


Hours of work:
25 hours per week


SUMMARY OF MAIN DUTIES:

The post-holder will project a positive and friendly image to patients and other visitors and deal with queries in a professional, courteous and efficient way.

Assist in the preparation, dispensing of prescriptions, for repeat medications requests.

Send tasks to other members of the practice for authorising


DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Prepared prescriptions Order repeat medications for dispensing patients/non dispensing from the chemist.

Checking of patient records to ensure they are up to date on blood tests results and annual reviews prior to issuing repeat medications Ensuring that refrigerated items are stored at the appropriate temperature and maintaining the temperature control record/logbook Back up to dispensing medications out to patients.

Cleaning work surfaces and shelving on a regular basis and ensuring that that all dispensary equipment is clean and work area is tidy.

Maintaining full and accurate records of all dispensing transactions. Undertaking other reasonable duties within the framework of the post as directed by the senior dispenser. Dispensing and checking repeat prescriptions. Taking orders for repeats and dealing with queries and support staff.

Using the computer to keep records up to date. Checking with gps or in patient records if concerned about the appropriateness of requests for medication. Dealing with queries from patients regarding their prescriptions. Ordering drugs using the modem link to the wholesalers.

Handling prescription money. Assisting in stock checks. Providing cover for annual leave/sickness.

PERSONAL & PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT The post-holder will participate in any training programme implemented by the practice as part of this employment, such training to include: Participation in an annual individual performance review, including taking responsibility for maintaining a record of own personal and/or professional development Taking responsibility for own development, learning and performance and demonstrating skills and activities to others who are undertaking similar work
