There is an expectation to minute high risk antenatal patients meeting and maintain the patient high risk tracker. You will be required to work to national deadlines.

The support will include statistical data collection and assisting in collation of national reports. The supported programmes will include fetal anomaly, haemoglobinopathy, infectious diseases, newborn blood spot and newborn hearing screening.

The post holder will be required to have an in depth understanding of each of these programmes and how the service is provided, including trust and national pathways.


We are seeking a team player who is able to work under pressure and prioritise their own workload, whilst responding to the needs of the service.


  • Manage daily reports within the NIPE SMART system, ensuring relevant staff are informed for babies >72 hours without mandatory checks.
  • Monitor and follow up the referrals for Heart, Eye's, Hips and testes ensuring referred babies and seen and updating the management system
  • Daily monitor SMART 4 hearing system ensuring eligible babies are screened and followed up in a timely manner.
  • Daily monitor Newborn blood spot failsafe ensuring babies have viable blood spot, dispatched to the lab in a timely manner.
  • Assist in the coordination of training staff in screening and manage electronic database for staff trained. Regular use of VDU equipment.
  • File anomaly reports with NCARDRS - National Congenital Anomaly and Rare Disease Registration Service
  • Assist the screening midwives with the Antenatal and Newborn (ANNB) screening Failsafe on a daily/weekly basis as required, assisting in the collation and production of Key performance indicators report.

Assist screening midwives in the delivery of the national Antenatal and Newborn Screening Programmes to women in the hospital setting.

The failsafe officer will ensure all women entering the high chance screening pathways has a plan in place. Providing administrative support.

Coordinate the daily monitoring and recording of referral updates on the National failsafe systems including Newborn bloodspot system, NIPE (Newborn infant physical examination) SMART system, and SMART 4 hearing tracking.

Assist the screening midwives in tracking patient results. Collating data for national Key performance indicator returns and maintain databases of patients eligible for screening.
