Responsibilities

All databases should be running on a fully supported version of Microsoft SQL server, so keeping the SQL server infrastructure up to date is key to the role
Develop the architecture, tools, procedures and methods employed in line with technical advances and business requirements
Interact with with suppliers e.g. Trace ISYS who manage Miller's OpenTWINS system (SQL server) that requires Qlik Replicate for replicating data into SQL Server for Miller's management reporting
Work on development and reporting projects as assigned. Work closely with developers to ensure internally developed systems are optimally designed
Ensure that developments are carried out in accordance with established Company I.T. procedures and standards. Participate in the establishment of development procedures and standards
Participate in the process of selecting the solution most appropriate to the stated business requirements
Provide work estimates and ensure actual effort falls within +/ 20%. Complete weekly timesheets accurately and timely including updated remaining work units
Perform assigned responsibilities as delegated by more senior members of the department.
Provide cover as required for other developers and DBAs
Provide supervisory and training assistance for more junior members of the team, as appropriate
Comply with any external rules and requirements imposed on individuals performing their role at Miller, such as Lloyd's byelaws and FCA rules
Promote Miller brand and values to enhance Miller's reputation in the market

Qualifications
MCSA SQL Server, Azure Data Engineer, Azure Database Administrator, Azure Administrator

Knowledge and Experience

Current versions of MS SQL Server, Azure SQL, Azure SQL Managed Instance, Snowflake, Qlik Replication. Azure Synapse, Data Factory, Cosmos DB. SQL scripting, PowerShell. SQL Server Monitoring and Performance tuning
Significant experience managing a medium sized SQL server estate in a financial/insurance company
