An exciting new opportunity has become available at Herefordshire Council to work at the heart of democracy in our Electoral Services Team.

The post of Electoral Services Assistant will provide administrative assistance for the compilation of the Electoral Register and support in the conduct and preparation of elections and referendums across the county.

We are seeking an enthusiastic, self-motivated, team player who is willing to develop their knowledge of the electoral process.

Electoral Services is a challenging and ever-changing environment, so you must be hardworking and have a positive attitude to change.

You must have a good understanding of office software including word and excel. Experience with electoral management software is preferred but not essential as full training will be provided.


As a member of the team, you will actively participate in the day-to-day operation of the service undertaking processes associated with maintaining the electoral register throughout the year and during our annual canvass of households.

You will have good administrative skills, with the ability to work accurately and methodically.

This is a public facing role so excellent written and oral communication skills and customer service are essential when assisting electors with their queries.


The individual should be committed, organised, and able to work under pressure to meet statutory deadlines; with the ability to plan and organise their own workloads.

You will be able to work flexibly with occasional home working.

There is a requirement to work unsocial hours including evening, bank holiday and weekends during election periods to meet the demands of the service.
