Description

Due to expansion we are looking to appoint a Specialist Screening Practitioner (SSP) for the Bowel Cancer Screening Programme to work alongside other SSP's providing care for participants of the programme.

This is an opportunity for someone with a particular interest in bowel cancer and/or screening who would like to expand their nursing role.

You will have been registered as a nurse for at least 3 years. Experience of Endoscopy or GI nursing is desirable. Applications from previous or current SSPs are welcome.

It is an exciting time to join us and play a leading role in the expansion of bowel cancer screening, based at UCLH, working across NCL.

The role will involve co-ordinating care, working autonomously and addressing the needs of individuals that arise as a consequence of the screening programme.

It will also entail detailed and accurate data entry into local and national databases.

The post holder will require excellent communication skills and a flexible approach to their work.

University College London Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (UCLH) is one of the most complex NHS trusts in the UK, serving a large and diverse population.

We provide academically led acute and specialist services, to people from the local area, from throughout the United Kingdom and overseas.

Our vision is to deliver top-quality patient care, excellent education, and world-class research.

We provide first-class acute and specialist services across eight sites:

  • University College Hospital (incorporating the Elizabeth Garrett Anderson Wing)
  • National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery
  • Royal National ENT and Eastman Dental Hospitals
  • University College Hospital Grafton Way Building
  • Royal London Hospital for Integrated Medicine
  • University College Hospital Macmillan Cancer Centre
  • The Hospital for Tropical Diseases
  • University College Hospital at Westmoreland Street
We are dedicated to the diagnosis and treatment of many complex illnesses. UCLH specialises in women's health and the treatment of cancer, infection, neurological, gastrointestinal and oral disease. It has world class support services including critical care, imaging, nuclear medicine and pathology.

At UCLH, we have a real 'One Team' ethos, and our values - safety, kindness, teamwork and improving, are central to the way we work.

This is supported by our staff, who voted us as the #1 NHS Acute Trust to work for in the whole of England.

We are committed to sustainability and have pledged to become a carbon net zero health service, embedding sustainable practice throughout UCLH.

We have set an ambitious target of net zero for our direct emissions by 2031 and indirect emissions by 2040.

We are a nurse led service and work closely with a team of doctors administrators who are each passionate about screening and its potential to diagnose cancer at its earliest stages and even before it develops.

We want as many people as possible from all groups to benefit from this life-changing programme.

UCLH has been the designated Bowel Cancer Screening Centre for the North Central London Sector since 2007, covering Camden, Islington, Haringey, Enfield and Barnet.

This national programme is currently in the process of extending the age group covered, moving from the starting age of 60 down to 50 by April 2024.

We are also committed to increasing the numbers of people who participate in the programme amongst groups that tend to be less likely to complete the bowel screening test.

We value and promote diversity and equality in the workplace.
