We are Brookson, for 26 years we have been supporting the self-employed, contracting and freelance market with high quality accountancy and finance support.

We now have an exciting opportunity for a Compliance Officer to join the Brookson Legal Services team.


As Compliance Officer, you will be involved in the independent contractor compliance evaluations, providing advice and guidance to our client base primarily on the Off-Payroll Working Rules in the UK, commonly known as IR35.


As Brookson Legal is part of the global People 2.0 company part of this role will include independent contractor compliance in jurisdictions outside the UK.

Internally, your job title would be Contractor Status Advisor.


What will you be doing as a Compliance Officer?

  • Be involved in managing relationships with clients, maintaining a good relationship and advising on instructed matters;
  • Carry out Anti-Money Laundering, KYC and conflict checks on clients as required to ensure full compliance with the law relating to AML and the ICAEW and Law Society requirements;
  • Be involved in the compliance duties relating to the evaluation of independent contractors' tax status
  • Ensure that relevant letters and terms of business are sent to clients in respect of all instructions received;
  • Ensure that all systems used within the Legal Team and all other records are kept up to date with appropriate and accurate information in relation to the work undertaken;
  • Ensure clients payments are received and up to date and be responsible for chasing overdue payments allocated to you;
  • Ensure that KPIs are understood and are met consistently;

Essential Experience

  • Ability to manage own workload within designated timescales;

Desirable Skills

  • Experience in document administration and compliance.
  • Experience in other professional service setting.
