Principal Responsibilities:


To assist in the audit and development of our service materials, resources and interventions to ensure they are culturally responsive and appropriate, and meet the needs of people from minoritised ethnic groups.

To support the improvement of our service pathways to address issues of inequality and barriers of access (e.g. referral pathway, intervention pathway).


To regularly link in with organisations within the community who support those from minoritised backgrounds, in order to develop effective and meaningful relationships with these communities.


To assist in the formulation and delivery of care plans involving the psychological treatment and/or management of a client's problems, under the supervision of a qualified professional psychologist, in both community, day care and in-patient/residential settings as appropriate.

To assist in the coordination and running of therapeutic groups.


To work with other disciplines to assess inpatients, outpatients, day patients or residents and review their care in preparation for multi-disciplinary reviews.


To assist in the development of a psychological framework of understanding and care to all service users of the service, across all care settings.

To attend and contribute to appropriate multi-disciplinary meetings as directed by the qualified psychologists.

Principal Responsibilities:


Making links with community organisations, such as charities and faith groups, and working with Mersey Care's Social Inclusion Team to encourage engagement with Step Forward, to better understand the needs of communities, and to explore issues of mistrust of services and work to overcome these barriers.

Making links with other relevant services and organisations who are active in working with under-represented communities and anti-racism to improve our practice (e.g. Black and Asian Therapists Network).


Raising awareness of mental health issues within marginalised communities, providing advice, guidance and information about pathways and services open to them.

Collecting feedback from experts by experience to improve service development.

Engaging in wider trust initiatives to address issues of racial inequality.


Supporting in training and education of staff teams to raise awareness of racial inequality and systemic racism, and encourage culturally responsive practice.

Teaching, training and supervision

To receive regular clinical supervision in accordance with professional practice guidelines and trust policy.

To develop skills and competencies that assist in the delivery of current duties

Where appropriate, and under the supervision of qualified staff, contribute to the training and support of other staff in psychological care

Management, recruitment and service development

To assist in the design and implementation of service development projects within the service as required.

To attend meetings in which service developments are planned and discussed as required.

IT responsibilities (other than those used for research)

To be competent in the use of basic IT packages, such as Microsoft word.

Develop a skill base in the administration and analysis of a range of psychometric packages as directed.

Research and service evaluation

To assist in the design and implementation of audit, effectiveness and research projects.

To undertake data collection, analysis, the production of full reports and summaries
