The Post

Are you creative and great at storytelling? Do you enjoy creating content for different audiences and channels? We are looking to recruit an experienced Content Strategist and Producer to work in a dynamic marketing team.

You will be an energetic and creative thinker with an understanding of how great marketing content is produced and promoted across digital and traditional platforms/channels to drive engagement.


This is an extremely cross-functional role - you must be able to juggle multiple campaigns and projects and support the marketing team in producing high-quality digital content.

You will collaborate with colleagues across the University to commission, develop, gather and produce engaging content for our global student audiences on all our social and digital media channels.

The post holder will find innovative new ways to deliver content.

This could range from creating video content, co-ordinating the creation of new social media content, art directing photoshoots, writing and creating blog content, managing student ambassadors, undertaking competitor analysis, or developing content plans.

Rolling your sleeves up and having digital content production skills is a must.


Description of Duties

  • Develop, collaborate on, and deliver digital content strategies and calendars aligned to marketing objectives
  • Ensure the content creation process aligns to brand and campaign guidelines and resonates with the target audience(s), basing recommendations on data and insight
  • Manage the content planning and production processes and workflows, collaborating with the team to ensure deadlines are met
  • Work with the digital and marketing teams to create, produce and deliver content to support the paid media plan for audiences in priority domestic, regional and international markets
  • Produce video content for social media channels and the website in collaboration with the videographer including the production planning, scripting, filming and editing
  • Brief and manage external agency and supplier relationships, i.e., video, photography, and creative agencies
  • Lead on the creation and delivery of engaging campaigns and content projects (copy, design, photography, video, graphics), managing distribution across all channels
  • Manage the Student Ambassador programme including onboarding, briefing and managing ambassadors to create digital content in line with the content strategy
  • Identify and work with student and alumni influencers to develop compelling content
  • Promote and implement campaigns in support of partner initiatives using brand toolkits, i.e., Brand Scotland, Universities UK and Universities Scotland
  • Ensure that processes for content storage and repurposing of content is managed for different platforms
  • Stay updated on the latest content and digital trends (in and out of industry) and adjust the content strategy as needed
  • Ensure legal compliance (e.g., copyright, accessibility, data protection)
  • Lead on maintaining and implementing the YouTube strategy
  • Share content trends, insight and best practice training with colleagues within the Directorate
  • Work with SEO and digital teams to develop blogs and content that meets user needs and drives engagement
  • Support the social media team to cocreate and schedule content for use across paid and organic social media platforms and assist in monitoring and responding to social media queries and engagements
  • Form part of an out of hours social media team, operating on a rotating basis

Essential Criteria

  • Excellent communicator and great at building relationships
  • Strong understanding of what makes genZ tick, and experience in using research, empathy mapping and segmentation to aid content development
  • Experience of planning, producing and delivering content for digital campaigns
  • Demonstrable project management skills
  • A great storyteller with strong copywriting, editing and publishing skills with good attention to detail
  • Creative with an interest in digital and design trends
  • Video production/editing skills (UGC) and an indepth knowledge of design and photography principles
  • Basic analytics and reporting skills
  • Experience in scheduling and managing social media platforms

Desirable Criteria

  • Experience in using Adobe Photoshop, Premier Pro and After Effects
  • Experience using workflow/project management software, i.e., Asana, Trello, etc.
  • Experience in using a Content Management System for the creation and publishing of blogs, i.e., WordPress
  • Understanding of developing and delivering a content strategy
  • People management experience
