The Advisory Unit (APD) is recruiting for a Highways Principal Account Lead to provide leadership and strategic direction to our growing Highways business and team.

The Highways Principal Account Lead will be part of the Transportation Portfolio Senior Leadership Team and will report to the Transportation Portfolio Lead.


As Highways Principal Account Lead you will be directly responsible for the leadership of our technical disciplines including Programme Management, Project Management and Commercial Management within our Highways Team.

You will also be responsible for working collaboratively with our Specialist, Strategic Advisory and GDS Leads to provide our full breath of services through our Highways Account.


Key Responsibilities:
Win

  • Set strategic direction for growth in our Highways Account to meet the Net Revenue and Margin expectations on the Unit.
  • Work with our Key Account and Account Leader community to build strong value adding relationship with our Highways (and Transportation) Clients.
  • Work with our Transportation Portfolio and Unit Development Director to provide focus to our work winning effort through the decision to bid process and ensure that our work winning procedures are followed.
  • Work with our Local Authority Account Lead to diversify the Client base within the Highways Account
  • Manage the business development and proposals budget for the Highways Account.
  • Support in the marketing a communication relevant to this part of our business.
Do

  • Collaborate closely with our Transportation and other sector facing Portfolios to support their success by effectively sharing resources, knowledge, and innovation.
  • Work closely with our Specialist and Strategic Advisory teams to support the growth and development of these services to our Highways clients.
  • Support our PP & PM'S to deliver their project and programmes of work ensuring that our STEP processes and procedures are followed and BMS requirements fulfilled.
  • Act as a role model for Health, Safety and Wellbeing for the team.
  • Effectively manage risk and opportunity within the Highways Account.

  • Help to build an environment where people are motivated, encouraged and empowered to be at their very best.
  • Manage and develop the teams to build strength in depth of capability.
  • Encourage inclusion and diversity across the portfolio and wider unit.
  • Support career development and help to create opportunities for our people through talent management and succession planning.
  • Help to develop a team ethos within our transportation portfolio.
Technical Excellence & Digital

  • Work with our Unit TEL and Technical Principles to drive technical excellence in this part of our business.
  • Champion to embed digital into our transportation offering.
Collaboration

  • Be part of the Portfolio Senior Leadership Team (SLT) to support in the leadership of the Portfolio and provide challenge to drive continuous improvement. Champion delivery of the Unit Objectives and support other members of the SLT.
  • Build key relationship with colleagues in our wider region and across the group to support the growth of the Highways account.
  • Actively participate in the National Highways Key Account Meetings with the wider MM Units to drive the connected thinking.

Essential skills and experience

  • Extensive Knowledge and expertise in the delivery of PPCM services within the Highways Sector
  • Excellent Leadership skills able to motivate, engage and inspire a growing multidisciplinary portfolio.
  • Exceptional collaborator able to work effectively with other portfolios and wider business.
  • Good Client facing skills with an ability to understand needs and expectations and deliver on expectations finding value adding solutions.

The Unit delivers services to projects ranging in scale and complexity up to £20bn, through the technical disciplines of Programme Management, Project Management, Project Controls, Scheduling, Cost Management, Estimating, Infrastructure Finance, Management Consulting, Digital Consulting and Education, Health and Care Management.
