Role Context:

This specialist role is an opportunity to join a newly created central sustainability office within M& plc.

The core purpose being to embed a central PLC co-ordination and governance model for sustainability, for the PLC and aligning all business functions,whilst continually improving the PLC sustainability governance operating model's efficiency and effectiveness.

The role holder will also deliver the required sustainability governance reports to appropriate business stakeholders, committees and boards as required.

They will have a continued willingness to learn, adapt and drive continuous improvement in the PLC sustainabilitygovernance model. Always ensuring 2nd Line risk requirements are evidenced in line with M&G plc's risk appetite and frameworks. This includes proactive stakeholder management to demonstrate alignment.

In addition to above, the role holder will support the wider central sustainability team in managing incident responses associated with any sustainability related issues which arise and require additional support or governance oversight.

The role holder willfocus on empowering the business functions to align to the PLC Sustainability strategy and governance model whilst implementing their own business function aligned sustainability strategy and governance oversight.

An integral element of the role is overseeingbusiness functions demonstrating their alignment.


Key Work Level Accountabilities:


Manager or Expert:


  • For people managers, accountable for managing and motivating others to ensure quality of delivery to customers and stakeholders.
  • Applies judgement to deliver outcomes, evaluating a range of potential solutions, considering the impact for customers, cost and risk.
  • Manages conflicts that may impact delivery.
  • Challenges upwards given knowledge of delivery and awareness of complex systems and the broader picture.
  • Identifies and anticipates need for changes to continuously improve quality and efficiency of output.
  • Manages resources and risks using expert judgment, knowhow and experience.

Key Accountabilities:


  • To work collaboratively with colleagues and take personal accountability to maintain and enhance controls you are responsible for to support improvement of the overall control environment, customers outcomes and a reduction in M&G Prudential's operationalrisk.
  • Implement a PLC wide sustainability governance model and all associated processes. Drive the continual improvement of the governance model
  • Implement and actively drive the continued improvement of a new PLC Executive Sustainability Committee (including secretariat accountabilities)
  • Ensure the sustainability senior management function requirements for the executive are transparent working closely with HR governance
  • Create and drive the continual improvements of a PLC wide sustainablity activity roadmap
  • Close complex audit and risk actions, within agreed timelines
  • Implement a PLC wide sustainability governance model for sustainability related communications and all associated processes. Drive the continual improvement of the governance model
  • Manage queries and support the PLC and business functions in resolving sustainability governance related issues
  • Ensure all 2nd Line risk framework and reputational risk requirements and considerations are adhered to and evidenced
  • Be inquisitive with a continued desire to learn, adapt and improve the PLC sustainability governance model and evidencing this
  • Always thinking customer, client, brand and reputation in every element of the role delivery and evidencing this

Key Knowledge, Skills and Experience:


  • At least 3 years working in a risk or governance role with an understanding of sustainability and sustainability risks within the financial services sector
  • Significant experience of defining governance operating models and frameworks and implementing to embedding
  • Demonstrable track record in designing effective risk management and mitigation processes and closing complex audit and risk allocated actions
  • Practical understanding of sustainability risk and how it can manifest across the customer and client lifecycle
  • Ability to work across and with a variety of key stakeholder groups and at multiple levels of seniority up to Executive level
  • Proven experience of working in a complex multichannel and multilocation business
  • Experience working within Asset Management and Life & Pensions operating environments
  • Significant experience of working with risk and compliance colleagues as well as across the operational, investments, brand & marketing and sales teams
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills with ability to communicate and influence at Executive level
  • Highly resilient, with ability to work with ambiquity, at pace and across multiple deliverables at once, ensuring required outcomes are delivered to the required high standard
