Job summary:


Working within MOD, UK Strategic Command, the Operations Finance Team Lead position will be responsible for managing a busy and dynamic business area which provides direct support to live MOD operations.


UK Strategic Command sits at the heart of Defence, drawing on the very best of air, sea and land forces as well as new domains of cyber and space.

Every single operation relies on the connectivity and skills which Strategic Command offers the whole of the Armed Forces.

This position is advertised at 37 hours per week.


Job description:


The Finance Team Lead will be responsible for the financial section of a small, fast paced, business area within MODs Strategic Command.

Specific responsibilities for the Finance Team Lead are as follows:

  • Day to day management of operational finances as well as future financial planning and review
  • Creation and maintenance of financial capabilities for the business area and when required, wider MOD
  • Financial assurance for the business area, reviewing and reconciling expenditure in accordance with MOD and local financial policies and guidance
  • Routine monthly accounting procedures
  • Liaison across the business area as the team lead for the finance section

Person specification:


Essential criteria:


  • Previous experience working with HM Government, particularly cross Department working
  • Experience within MOD and understanding of command / financial structures

Desirable criteria:


  • Understanding of MOD financial policy
  • Experience with private finance or investment finance
  • Experience with audit and assurance
  • CGMA/ACCA full / part qualified or similar
  • Qualified or studying towards a Financial Investigation qualification
  • Experience with open source research and investigation
