Description

The Vales provides high dependency rehabilitation to females who are detained under the mental health act for treatment of their mental illness and/or disorder.

The Vales provides psychological interventions for patients with both mental health illnesses and personality disorders who are requiring psychological therapies who present with symptoms complex trauma.

As a senior healthcare support worker on the Vales you would be expected to support recovery, promote independence and facilitate achievement of goals whilst working alongside the nursing team and wider multi
- disciplinary team, which consisting of; occupational therapy, social workers, speciality Doctor's and Consultants.

As a senior healthcare support worker some of your responsibilities will be required to support the patients to;

  • Regain their independence and confidence by supporting them to gain new skills.
  • To support recovery to live as independently as possible to reach their optimal mental health.
  • To build and maintain therapeutic relationships whilst maintaining boundaries.
  • To support patient to access the community and appointments, this may include driving the unit vehicle if you have a valid driving license.
  • To support patients to complete activities of daily living including personal care, budgeting, cooking etc


Under the supervision of a registered nurse participate in the development, implementation and maintenance of high quality care within a ward environment, through involvement in the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of patient care.

To work within the policies, protocols and clinical procedures of Lincolnshire Partnership NHS Trust and to promote competent working practice within an integrated multi-disciplinary team.


  • To liaise with the nurses, and carry out assigned duties as a member of the multi
- disciplinary mental health team.

  • To be prepared to work on own initiative as necessary and report to the Nurses.
  • Promote equality for all patients and understand their health needs.
  • Demonstrate an awareness of service user and carer perspectives on the provision of treatment and continuing care.
  • Participate regularly in clinical supervision sessions.
  • Liaise with representatives from associated voluntary and statutory organisations and facilitate good communication processes.
  • Attend inservice training and other study / refresher days to meet individual, statutory and service needs.
  • Participate in performance reviews.
  • To work with service users to promote independence, maximising daily living skills.
  • Assist in maintaining general and specific patient observations under the supervision of registered nursing staff.
  • Facilitate and participate in recreational and physical activities in the provision of health and social care to service users.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of the responsibilities in relation to patients' property and valuables, respecting cultural values.
  • Always act in a manner as to promote and safeguard the interests and well
- being of patients.

  • Actively promote a responsible caring attitude at all times, treating all patients with dignity and respect.
  • To report any incident which does not comply with Trust policy regarding incident reporting.
  • Participate in the escorting of patients as per the Unit procedures.
  • Accompany patients and participate, as needed, in recreational activities.
  • Maintain good order and cleanliness on the Unit
