Job Description:

We work closely with specialists in AECOM's network of offices in over 150 countries.

Our geographical areas are varied, for example some of the projects we have delivered recently include:


  • Environmental and Social Impact Assessment and stakeholder engagement for solar plants in Kazakhstan, Trinidad and Tobago and Malawi;
  • Engaging local authorities and communities for a sustainable city project funded by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) in Eastern Europe and Central Asia;
  • Environmental and Social Due Diligence for rail development project in Ghana;
  • Environmental and Social Impact Assessment in the Comoros Islands and Madagascar for various offshore oil & gas developers; and
  • Environmental and Social monitoring of the implementation of environmental and social action plans for various infrastructure projects in Turkey.
Therefore, fluency in a foreign language (for example French and/or Spanish) is desired.


Our International Social specialists perform a wide range of consulting services for international projects, including contribution to and coordinating delivering ESIAs and ESDDs, as well as having an understanding of/exposure to social specialisms such as Resettlement Action Plans (RAP), Livelihood Restoration Plans (LRP), community and stakeholder engagement, labour and working conditions, community investment, and social performance and sustainability reporting.


You will play a key role in supporting social aspects of international ESIA, ESDD and social performance services on major international projects for our private sector clients and on behalf of international funders.

Working as either a member of a multidisciplinary team, or directly for clients, you will support work such as:


  • Social baseline studies,
  • Community and stakeholder engagement,
  • Assessments of social impacts, identification of mitigation measures, social management plans,
  • Labour & working conditions audits,
  • Preparation and implementation of resettlement and livelihood restoration plans,
  • Social performance monitoring and reporting, training and capacity building on social performance for clients etc.
You will also be supporting in work winning through contributing to proposal preparation.


The ESIA & ESDD Practice Area sits within AECOM's Environment & Sustainability (E&S) business, which in the UK comprises over 200 people across approximately 20 offices.

Successful applicant could join the team in Aldgate (London), Bristol and Edinburgh.


Qualifications:


  • A graduate qualification - economics, social sciences, international relations or similar discipline.
  • Proven previous experience and understand of social performance related projects such as Social Impact Assessment, Stakeholder Engagement, Social Due Diligence and/or Resettlement Action Plans following international standards (e.g. IFC Performance Standards).
  • Excellent report writing and presentation skills.
  • Research and analytical skills and experience, including ability to manipulate and analyse quantitative and qualitative data.
  • Strong ability of working as a member of a team who is also able to work independently, a creative thinker with vision and desire to deliver meaningful results. Previous qualitative research experience a plus.
  • Some experience working in a professional international environment (e.g. international organisations, private sector, development non-governmental organisations).
  • Good interpersonal skills with ability for building internal and external relationships and networks.
  • Strong interest in Businesses' "Social License to Operate", social performance, international relations and development issues, and/or Business and Human Rights.
  • Fluency in foreign language (French and/or Spanish) is ideal.
