Job summary:

As the GB's regulator for the energy industry, Ofgem exists to ensure a safe, secure and sustainable energy supply to British households and businesses.

In this role, you will be leading and contributing to Ofgem's Compliance or Enforcement team, with the opportunity to work flexibly across Ofgem as a member of the Compliance and Enforcement Profession.

As part of this role you will be responsible for undertaking high quality, timely and robust analysis of potential non-compliance, and providing evidence-based recommendations.

Your focus will be on ensuring that suppliers are well and efficiently run, and ensure good outcomes for customers.

We are looking for someone with excellent written and verbal abilities, who is able to effectively communicate complex issues to non-expert audiences to facilitate the development of effective working relationships, and the ability to influence external stakeholders.

Ofgem offers incredibly flexible working practices, enabling you to manage your work / life balance successfully.

There is also a great culture, with an approachable and friendly senior leadership team who are there to support you in your role and help you progress and develop both professionally and personally.

Ofgem also has a culture of inclusion that encourages, supports and celebrates the diverse voices and experiences of our colleagues.

It fuels our innovation and helps ensure we can best represent the consumers and the communities we serve. Everyone is welcome - as an inclusive workplace, our employees are comfortable bringing their authentic selves to work.

Job description:

The energy market situation in recent months is unprecedented.

The record increase and volatility in global gas prices has put the energy market under severe strain, and is putting upward pressure on customers' energy bills.

Now more than ever we need to go further and faster in pursuing the country's climate goals and reduce our reliance on fossil fuels to protect ourselves from similar future price shocks.

Such challenging times require bold action.

We are looking for people to meet the challenges we face head-on, and help us deliver a greener, fairer energy system.

Recent events in the energy market revealed that energy suppliers too often had insufficient capital to manage the business of supply and had unsustainable business models.

The impact of supplier failures is often borne by consumers who incur higher bills as a result of the failure.

Your role will be to protect consumers through compliance or enforcement work, by assessing suppliers' business models, determining if they are susceptible to failure and devising intervention strategies to ensure suppliers put themselves on a more sustainable footing.

You will be someone who:

  • Has a proven background in compliance or enforcement work related to finance, insolvency or asset ownership / management.
  • You will be able to demonstrate delivery of positive change for consumers, communities, or society in a role across: regulation and enforcement, compliance, risk management, strategy, operational delivery or policy development.
  • Enjoys developing new skills, capabilities and expertise and being engaged across a broad range of diverse activities, including stakeholder engagement, analysis, policy development and project management.
  • Is interested in the energy sector in the broad sense, passionate about ensuring good outcomes for current and future consumers, protecting consumers, and eager to help drive Ofgem's contribution to delivering Net Zero.
  • Champions our culture of inclusion and encourages, supports, and celebrates the diverse voices and experiences of our colleagues, fuelling our innovation and ensuring we best represent the consumers and the communities we serve.

Team Purpose and role
Our Enforcement team leads on all the enforcement for Ofgem and works across the different directorates. Your focus will be on ensuring the non-compliant suppliers are held to account and deterrent signals are sent to the market about the importance of complying with regulatory and st
