BEL Engineering, part of the British Engines Group, is a leading engineering service provider offering full process control of subcontract manufacturing services, with machining capabilities from 3mm diameter to 50 tonne components.


The company works primarily in the defence, nuclear, renewables and oil and gas sectors and operates from a secure, integrated manufacturing facility in Newcastle upon Tyne.

BEL Engineering provides solutions which support customers from initial concept, through material selection and sourcing, to manufacturing, assembly and test.


The role:

An exciting opportunity has arisen at our site at St. Peters, Newcastle upon Tyne for a Planning Lead to join our growing business. This position will be on a full time, permanent basis.


Reporting directly to the Planning Manager the Planning Lead will be responsible for the control and development of end to end machine shop planning processes.


Duties:


  • To use IFS software to control and develop end to end machine shop planning processes
  • Load and capacity planning and front end priority setting of contract review and engineering functions along with back end priority setting
  • To schedule PPMs and multiple operations including machining, sub con, inspection and assembly
  • To develop useful status reporting (KPI's) to ensure that all departments can see progress against the plan
  • To maintain predicted completion timing of each operation final predicted shipping timing for the full order book
  • To analyse data (eg OEE) and present this simply and visually to various levels within the organisation to enable logical improvement identification and decision making
  • To interact with all departments to ensure that all IFS inputs are correct and understood
  • To ensure that the load and available capacity by resource is readily available and visible at all times to facilitate timely resource change and support quote/no quote decision making
  • To ensure that all departments are working to the same priorities and have clear and achievable completion targets
  • To maintain and schedule the circa 70 resources in IFS
  • To create, produce and automate Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and reports using system data
  • To challenge current methods and practices to continuously improve business efficiencies
  • To work in a safe manner and comply with British Engines Group Health, Safety & Environmental Policy
  • To carry out any other duties not listed above as may be reasonably expected

The person:

Strong knowledge of planning systems is preferred and an understanding of MRP. Excellent communication and problem solving skills with a determination to get to the root cause, resolve and standardise.

They will demonstrate a positive, innovative and motivated approach to their work combined with an ability to work under pressure within time constraints.
