This role offers an opportunity to be part of the team behind an exciting university press which is still in its development phase.

As a key member of a small team you will be required to be involved in supporting all aspects of Goldsmiths Press activities, supporting the press Director and Editorial and Production Manager.

Acting as an ambassador for Goldsmiths press, promoting our publications, ethics and ethos. We expect this role to develop and there is the chance for it to become more specialised over time.

Main duties:


  • Assist the department with all editorial and production processes in a professional and timely manner, as requested by the Editorial and Production Manager, Publishing Consultant and /or the press Director.
  • Attend meetings as required. Minutes, if requested, should be compiled for approval within 24 hours, and distributed once approval is given.
  • Support the publicity and marketing of the press by creating press/promotional lists for each book as publication nears. Each list should include the suggestions from the Author Questionnaire, as well as additional suggestions from the Commissioning and Editorial teams as they arise (for clarity, this includes series editors, Director, Editorial and Production Manager and/or Publishing Consultant). Press releases should be sent to contacts on each list in advance of publication, and followed by PDFs and/or review copies as requested. These should be supplied in a timely manner, in order to maximise sales. An uptodate and accessible record must be kept of all contacts made, and any followup actions undertaken.
  • Keep track of office stationery expenditure and sundries.
  • Deal with invoicing and distribution of the Goldsmiths Shorts series as required.
  • Act as a point of contact for new submissions. These should be reviewed and distributed for discussion on a monthly basis. Decisions to be recorded and communicated in a timely fashion.
  • Maintain Goldsmiths Press's social media presence including Twitter, Instagram and Facebook.
  • Work closely with a small team to ensure delivery of publications and smooth running of effective publishing process. Transparent communication, as well as a willing and collaborative attitude is essential, as is a professional manner when dealing with authors, publishing partners, and colleagues.
  • Support all aspects of the publishing process. This includes communication and collaboration with publishing partners and authors as requested, and ensuring that due process is followed, as agreed with colleagues.
  • Contribute to the development of the press and help to establish processes as required that can enhance its publishing programme.
  • Provide regular, onceweekly reports on progress to the line manager, using the form provided.
  • Mail out gratis copies as required.
  • Submit books for prizes as required.
  • You will be required to undertake any other duties as may reasonably be required
  • Ensure that you are aware of and aligned with Goldsmiths' Regulations, Strategy, and Objectives to work together to proactively advance Equality and Diversity
  • At all times to help maintain a safe working environment by participating in training as necessary and following the Goldsmiths' Health and Safety Codes of Practice and Policy
  • Provide administrative support for book launches and publicity events.
  • Update submissions and review forms.
  • Update information on the Goldsmiths Press webpages.
  • Liaise with Communications to enhance college awareness of the press and its publications.
