We have an exciting opportunity for a qualified solicitor or barrister to join our in-house Legal Team as a Commercial Construction Lawyer.

With a £3bn plus capital investment programme, you will find yourself as a key member of the AMP8 alliance programme team, responsible for negotiating contracts which will shape our success for the next 5-7 years and beyond.

We have implemented industry leading alliance arrangements, so this is a unique opportunity to be involved in innovative and forward-thinking contractual arrangements.


What you'll be doing:


In this role, you will draft and negotiate the terms of high-profile delivery contracts which will cover a range of services including design and construction on capital investment projects, and repair and maintenance activities on our water and wastewater network.

The successful implementation of these contracts is critical to the success of the business and consequently the programme has a high profile within our business.

Where necessary, you will also deliver wider commercial legal advice and assistance to Anglian Water

What does it take to be successful?


Your relationship with multiple internal and external stakeholders, the programme team and the legal team as a whole, is key to being successful in this role, so excellent communication and interpersonal skills are essential, as is being an excellent team player.

You must also be prepared to take responsibility, constructively challenge and make decisions. In doing so, you will find yourself in a great working environment where we always seek to achieve the right work / life balance and reward high performance


You will:


  • Have detailed and practical knowledge of the NEC Suite of Engineering Contracts
  • Have strong commercial acumen and analytical thinking; and the confidence to constructively and robustly challenge
  • Ideally have experience of public procurement or utilities procurement rules
  • Be able to work autonomously, but also an excellent team player who is highly personable and is someone who can forge strong relationships with people at all business levels including directors, and external stakeholders
  • Have sound drafting and negotiating skills
  • Able to provide pragmatic practical advice, with a sound approach to business risk
  • Be IT proficient.
